Just picked up a 93 300D

Paid 2900 for it.

The car had the following problems.
No AC
headlight wire problem, one side very dim
sunroof would not open
hard shifting
no turn signals or flasher
no power to the radio
clock not working

I have replaced F9 I think. Now the clock works. The sunroof needed the rails cleaned and lubed, now working fine. Fixed the headlanp wires and replaced a damaged ac cond. Just need to install new orings and vac out the system. Also fixed vac leaks just about everywhere and changed all fluids and filters.

I still have no flashers/turn signals and radio. I can find no cause yet. Someone said it could be the one relay, but I would like to trouble shoot it more before spending the money on one. Any ideas where to start ?

I'd check the flasher relay.

Sounds like a nice car! Any other pics? I searched far and wide for one of those around here but could not find one at a remotely reasonable price. Ah, the rare W124 diesels!

We obviously haven't seen pics of the car, but it does sound like quite the deal.
Nice job!

I pulled and checked all the fuses with a meter. I moved some around just to be sure. I will put up some pictures after work today. Is the flasher control one of the smaller relays or the larger ones with the pcb in them ? I did change one fuse that broken and now the clock works.

How much does it cost to replace the a/c compressor? I am looking to buy a '97 e300 diesel with a bad a/c compressor.

Thanks,

Thanks,
You're probably looking around $600+ for parts if you go rebuilt, more for refrigerant and labor if you have a shop do it. Not a cheap fix, you'll find living without AC isn't so bad when you see the estimate

I was lucky finding a used condensor at a local bone yard from a rear ended 300D. I only paid $ 15.00 for it, I had to take a chance on it. I just picked up the dryer and o-rings today. With any luck I will have AC. I have to pull the radio out and check for voltage. I want to make sure that the radio and turn signals are caused by the same problem. It would not be the first time I got a car with a dead radio.

If the fuse for the radio keeps blowing when you turn it on don't assume the headunit is the problem, there's the tuner computer and in the W124s case an amplifier under the seat to check too.

I have no blown fuses now in the fuse box. Does the radio have any fuses elsewhere ? At this point I could care less if the radio works, I just need to get the turn signals and flasher working for inspection.

Most radios have a fuse in the back of the head unit.

W124s have a combination relay that handles the turn signals and 4-way flashers. It is designated "N10" and is the forward-most relay in the center column of relays in the relay section of the fuse box. Under the hood, driver's side, just ahead of the main firewall. Remove the fuse cover, then loosen (but don't remove, they are captive screws) six screws and remove the under-cover. The combination relay is part number 201 821 00 47. It was first used in the W201 class (190D/E, etc.) hence the 201-part number. It operates the rear window defogger (heat strip) also and something else--I forget.

There's a separate relay "h2" in the instrument cluster that makes a turn-signal clicking noise (that's all it does!). It should be OK.

Is the N10 about 3 inches long and has a pcb in it ?

I don't recall if there is a fuse on the back of the headunit, but there is a fuse on the top of the tuner unit.

Transmission shifting is vacuum related.

If you can make sure that you don't have a vacuum leak, you can then adjust the tranny via two methods that worked for me when I had this same problem.

First, make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks.
