Adding a LSD to my 126 sdl

So I came across a great deal on a used limited Slip diff from (from what im told) 560 sel.

im thinking i should pick it up and add to my sdl. my question is

1. Can i use it with the axels in the car currently or do i need different axels

2. lets assume its a good core that needs seals, bearing etc, is that DIY or do i need a bunch of tools that i dont have and will cost me a fortune?

3. What else do i have to change to make it work right?

here is the id info from the rear diff:

Side of outer case:
5281
+GF+M 1
15 GGG40 5B 86
1263511201
Tag on rear cover:
Achtung Spezial-ol
Sperrdifferential (online translation states Limited slip)
On gear inside:
3377
126 353 2012-247

If both cars are 1986 or newer, it SHOULD bolt in I have heard that there is a lot of work making a later diff work on an earlier car and Vice versa. As for the rebuild, I have no idea, best thing is to look it up in the FSM and see. You would need a press at least to seat the new bearings or you could smack them with a mallet and pipe You should also get the speedometer as the gears are different.

Good luck!

If its between a post '85 SEL (which I think all 560's were)....and your '87SDL....then it should be a direct swap.

Does that differential have ASD or is it just limited slip? It will probably need the clutches rebuilt.

Its just a basic clutch type LSD......but, the clutch packs are more than likely shot if it has any substantial number of miles on it....thus, it will not perform as you expect it to...

Rebuilding them is quite involved and requires some special tools and extreme precision....probably best left to a MB tech or someone who is real familiar with such a task....and the parts are not cheap....probably several hundred $$.....
