603 parts compatibility with 606??

Hey guys,

I have blown motor on a '95 E300D, ~175K miles. I've decided to rebuild it. I have an '87 300D with the OM603. Before I pull the old motor out, I want to know if I can I scavenge parts from that motor? Specifically: crankshaft, piston rods, oil pump, oil pan, timing gears?

I'm pretty sure at least the rods are compatible. I'd also be curious to see what other internal parts cross over.

According to my parts supplier, the crankshaft is usable, which, if true, will save me $2K. It's worth it to pull the motor just for the crank; maybe we'll have to see about the rest after we've opened it up.

Why is the 87 300D only good for its parts?

List the parts you want to know about. Look up the same parts for both years/models at your favorite internet parts source. And, compare the part numbers to see if they are the same.
