'84 300D IP timing?

I was told by a so called MB mechanic that I can't set the IP timing on my car? That I have to replace the timing chain to fix the timing??

It's a 84 300D turbo

You can reset your injection pump timing like this. Use the specs for turbo charged engines:

I think (hope) what he meant to say is that if you correct your cam timing then you have to correct your injection timing as well. They are two different things. Also, you can reset your cam timing without replacing the chain. You use an offset woodruff key. There is an article on that under the DIY section as well.

Unless there is more more to the story, that is incorrect.
