Primer Pump thread size.

hey guys,

I was about to order a new primer pump and it says that some models have a 22mm opening for the primer pump instead of 16mm. Hey idea about that. My car is a 1983 300 turbo diesel. Thanks in advance.

The old style pump went obsolete back in 1999 and was replaced with a pump that will fit the 616,617 and 603 engines. It has a black handle, and a bushing that will not be used on the 616/617. The new style black handle does not have to be twisted on/off. Just pump and prime away. Alan

I am curious I thougth the MB Diesels sold in the US had 300, D, SD, TD or CD after the 300 on them.
Was your car origionally sold in Europe?

Also there is 2 types of Fuel Injection Pumps used on these Engines. The Fuel Supply Pumps are different on them and may be the threaded area size where the Primer Pump goes.
The "M" pump I believe has the Hand Primer close to the IP; while the other more common IP has the hand primer located further from the IP body and closer to the Driver Side Fender Well.
It might be better to look at the little Model plate that is on the Fuel Supply Pump and go to a Bosch Fuel Injection Shop and see which Hand Primer you are supposed to have.

Hey diesel911. Good to see you chime in on the thread. My diesel is just a normal 300 turbo. Nothing special about it.

I guess I should give a little more info about my question. I ordered a Febi primer pump. It's the new style and supposed to work on 16mm threaded pumps. I later noticed that the Bosch pumps come with a 22mm adapter. Was just wondering what that was all about. My primer pump is positioned just like all the other diesels I've seen. Cheers!

Take a look at Post #35 in this thread; it has a pic showing 2 Fuel Supply Pumps with 2 different part numbers of new style Hand Primer Pumps. To me the Supply Pump as well as the bottom of the Hand Primer look larger. Maybe that is the one that the 22mm threaded adapter would work on.

see next post.
