Cool PROBLEM WITH AIR CLEANER FASTENERS

Anyone have trouble with air cleaner fasteners? About 2 years ago I replaced the broken cleaner mount and installed new rubber fasteners. This week when putting in a new filter, I noticed the whole unit was loose. All three fasteners were broken. You would think they would last longer.
Going on a trip next week and didn't have time to send for parts. Lucky for me, a nearby garage that works on Mercedes had replacements.

You might need new motor mounts. Collapsed mounts mean more vibration energy is being transmitted to those air cleaner mounts causing them to fail prematurely. When was the last time your motor mounts were replaced? Typically they last about 5-10 years or about 100K miles.

Mine are all busted too, but just as nhdoc pointed out I definitely need new motor mounts. My mounts are to the point where they do not even line up with the holes, and the threaded insert is sheared off of one...the other 2 are just rubber.

They will last a lot longer if you solve the "engine shake" problem. In addition to checking motor mounts, check into adjusting the governor idle pin.

When I put on my last set, I added the brass heat shields. So far, they have lasted longer.

Take three of your old rubber bumpers, remove the screw on each end, drill a hole through, and run a bolt, washer, and nut through them. You will see that this lasts a lot longer than the factory bumpers.
