A/C Compressor issue

Greetings All ~
I'm about to make a road trip across Texas and I can't seem to find my problem with the A/C compressor engaging. No current to the clutch, so I know its electrical. I've changed both the climate controls and control module from my parts car with no success. Fan runs, so they are on the same fuse, right?

I would really appreciate any help those of you more experienced folks cound give. Thanks!
brg

Starting points:

1) Low/no refrigerant
2) bad refrigerant pressure switch
3) bad evap temp switch

There might be other suggestions, but we need to know what car we're considering

Thanks Bob. I'll go & get my guages. I was thinking electrical because it was working fine until I started working on a CD player problem and it just failed when I was in the console. I had just started the car, and was fiddling with some errant wiring in the console when it just shut off. Cooling strong before that. I was thinking I have just shorted out something.

This is an '84 300CDT, 170K miles, daily driver. 134 conversion 2 years ago (I did a complete disassembly, flush and changed the core, expansion and dryer). Always very cold until last week's fateful morning.

BY FAR the most common cause of this is a low charge causing the low pressure switch to interrupt clutch engagement. This is to save the compressor from no lubrication circulation in a low refrigerant condition.
