99 E300 wiper dosen't "park"

I added a 99 E300 to the Diesel fleet, and I have to say I love the car. I do have an issue with the wiper blade not "parking", it will stop where ever it gets turned off. If I push the wiper washer spray button it will spray but the wiper blade does not move. I don't think the intermittant settings work either. I basicaly have high and low wiper speeds and have to time the off position to get the blade to stop some where other than the middle of the windshield. This just happened and did work when I bought the car a month or so ago. If anyone has experianced the same issues please offer some advice if your able.

Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike, Not exactly the same problem, but in my case, the spray button would stop working, but the wiper would go through all its cycles. Then, out of nowhere, the wiper and spray would just stop working altogether. I checked the fuse, and it looked alright, but after closer inspection, I found that the fuse socket prongs were not making proper contact with the fuse. The fuse itself also showed signs of electrical arcing on one its prongs. Made a slight adjustment to the fuse socket prongs, put in a new fuse, and all is well. That was about 8 months ago. Hope this info is of help to you.

Lube wiper

I don't believe lubing the wiper will solve the problem, but its not a bad idea. I believe I found out how to do it on this site.

Still giving me problems. I do have high and low functions, the problem is when you turn the wipers off, that is the location they stop. The intermittant settings do nothing. The spray button if pushed will spray fluid but the wiper blades do not move. Any help?

Thanks,

Mike

Sounds like the relay is malfunctioning....I'd swap it with another.

It's very expensive and must be version-coded to the car. That should be a last resort. However, if it is bad, it may have thrown a code. OBD-II won't show it if it has; you need SDS. But I doubt that it is a module problem at all.

I have not investigated the electrics of the wiper, I believe that there is a lead that is hot in run, used to park the blade. A contact within the gearbox will cut the power from that lead to the motor when it is in the parking position, otherwise it moves. This is how older wipers have pretty much always worked, and the FSM does warn you to never work on the wiper system with the key on, as you could start the motor accidentally. It does not say, but I assume they mean by moving the arm, and getting power through the parking switch.

So either that switch is bad or is not getting power. It should be fairly easy to figure out which is the case.

That is true and I did not think of that, the parking switch inside the assembly may very well be bad.

I understand what you are saying about the parking switch. It seems that there is more going on than that, due to the wipers not functioning in the intermittant positions also? Or could the parking switch effect the intermittant functions also?

Thanks,

Mike

I did a bit of investigation and I was wrong earlier, I only have HI speed, intermittant and low do not work and wiper spray only sprays washer fluid does not move wiper blade. I also removed the two fuses 5,19 located under rear seat they were not blown. I also removed each one individually then inserted the key and there was no difference with the each fuse removed, the hi speed still worked.

Ok, low not working points to something else.

The parking action runs in low speed. So does the washer action. Thus, your low speed is out.

It could be the motor itself. Let's hope not. I think it's fairly expensive. Hopefully there is a fuse that protects just the low speed function. Don't forget to look at the fuses on top of the K40 module.

The diagrams are in WIS and the FSM on DVD. They are in a bunch of pieces in either and somewhat hard to find, but you might only need one of them for the wiring associated with the wiper system.

Thanks for the help, I think have to do some testing, possibly set the wiper to slow speed and test for voltage going to the motor.
