MB Diesel Addiction-Is it cureable ?

Picture a small room in an school annex, church basement, or community center. Coffee and snacks along a cardable.

"HI My Name is Peter & I am a MB Diesel addict"

"Hi Peter"

"It started with a few simple VW diesels. they were nice and great on fuel, but living in Detroit a VW was not cool. Soon after moving to South Florida I bought my first MB diesel a 1982 300D. Soon I had a 1985 300D off ebay and convined my father in law to buy a 1984 300D. I bought a 1983 300SD then I purchased a 1985 300D-it was for my son I told myself. (he was only 14 at the time).

I was spending all my spare time at U Pull It, trolling the rows for "better" MB parts. Soon I was collecting odd tools -only good for MB cars.

My Indy MB mechanic was tiring of me pestering him about the health of some of his retired customers who had wonderfully maintained MBs.

Soon another 300D became my wifes daily driver. I converted the MBs to run on WVO. New Injectors,LED dash lights, restuffed seats. I could not recall my wedding anniversity-but knew the mileage/date each MB needed a oil change at. My driveway, my rental and my neighboors driveway nowsport my MB fleet. I started naming the MBs-selling one of my "babies" was like giving away one of my kids.

My wife wanted a hybrid-how could she even think to drive a plastic jellybean car when her dual decade MB was available?

I thought I could stop-but last week a buddy towed in a 1983 300SD out of garage that it has sat in for 10 years. No rust with orginal paint. Property owner had title & wanted $100 (yes $100!). I could not get to a ATM machine fast enough.

Can this be stopped? Is there a 12 step program? Sponsors?

Naww, this stuff's worse than crack. At least you got hooked later in life. This is my first car, and I got it as soon as current law would allow.

Nope.... I get on here and see people with 2, 3, 4, 5 and upwards of 7 cars in their sig.

Now I understand why! I always wondered why my father had 3 or 4 of them when I was a kid (new ones).

Now I am starting to understand!!

After being here.... I know better.

No 350's for me. Still a wonderful car though. Just plagued with engine troubles.

does it only apply to diesels? I went gasser after I wrecked my 300sd. I Dont think as a daily driver I could go back to diesel. Not sure. I am currently looking at different diesels in the w123 range.

I started with a 300D and now I have 5, some are projects . Put me on an island with no Internet access then I will be cured. Lot of coconut trees though as I need to turn it into coconut oil to run the cars.

Yes, it's curable. I'm a recovering dieselaholic. My name is Larry and I haven't had an Oel Motor on the road in over five years now.

I'm past the DT's and only occasionally have visions. Occasionally I find myself reaching for the green nozzle when refueling, but I am usually able to control myself.

The tinnitus (ringing in my ears) left over from my Army years gives way to a clattering sound occasionally, but other than that I'm feeling very few ill effects.
