95 E300 Diesel CCU push button jammed

Hi,

The 'low speed fan' button in my CCU is jammed. It is pushed in and doesn't come out even if press the 'auto' or 'high fan' push button. I get very little air from the center vents and none from the both the side vents. Also the 'auto' push button wont stay in, it keeps popping out and I get no air with 'high fan' button. I understand my problems may be more than the CCU but I thought I'll start off with fixing the push buttton issue with the CCU.

Can I fix the push button or should I have to replace the CCU ??? I called a salvage yard and they have a used one from a 94 e320 for about $65. Is it easy to pull out the CCU ?? Please advise. Thanks

Try levering on opposite sides of the low speed fan button with tiny screwdrivers. If you can get the button to come out, the other fan speed buttons may work. You can then clean the low speed button, maybe use some "303" on it, and put it back. It will pop off of its shaft if you are firm but gentle.

With the low speed fan button stuck in, the others won't work at all. You can have only one fan speed button pressed at a time -- low, auto, or high.

The lack of air from the center vents may be a vacuum pod problem, unrelated to the button problem.

Use a pen knife blade to gently pry it out. You might have to remove the button then press one of the other buttons to get the actual push-rod thing to pop out.
