Reasonable offer for a 96 300?

How low can I go without being laughed off the lot?

They don't have the car ridiculously overpriced like most dealers you see. Don't expect to get more than $1000-$1500 off.

Agreed. We paid a lot more for ours with twice the mileage; of course that was before the economy crashed. 129K miles is barely broken in! As usual, check for rust, especially the front spring perches. If possible, arrange for a pre-sale inspection just in case the suspension needs a lot of work or there are some other hidden problems. It would also be nice if the dealer has a collection of service records from previous owners.

Very CLEAN, except for the smashed rear bumper and opposite side front quarter panel.

I'd say it isn't worth more than $5k tops, and thats only if the maint has been kept up.

Oh please... its worth more than that. Chances of car driven daily for 10+ years without an incident requiring body work is slim. That cracked rear bumper would can easily be fixed with a good used one for a few hundred dollars.

I agree that it is not that over priced, especially with the low miles (by e300 standards). Give the guy a $6500 bill and drive home.

True, but that is why they have body shops. Can't you buy an E300 turbo diesel for $8,000 to 10,000?

That damages says to me that it was owned by someone who didn't care, or didn't have enough money to take care of the car.

To the OP: get a PPI and an estimate from a body shop. Did you see the free Carfax at the dealer site? It was in an accident on 06/18/1998.

The dealer name makes me a little tense....... \

I would probably offer $6K and go to $6500 if I had to. I'm not sure I would go too much higher.
That is, IF I were to ever consider a W210!!! Love the front, hate the back. Fear the codes and also the rust issues up that way......

My grandmother has repainted her bumpers at least twice. The current ones have granny marks on them too.

Its pretty common to see brand new Mercedes that are scratched, dinged, and dented in NY and LA.

I don't have the $$$$$ to repair every little scratch and blemish on my Mercedes, but I can tell you that they are taken care of and are cared for.
Your theory has some holes.......[kind of like the rear bumper]

I guess our definition of a little scratch differs greatly. When I look at the bumper, I see a hole. I guess my eyes are not failing as fast as I thought. I don't have the money to fix every little scratch either, but if my bumper looked like that, I would have it fixed.

In today's market, for that car, those miles and that condition, and a non-turbo W210 going on 15 years old?

It's a $4K car tops.

OK, I may be starting to lose it. SRJ and I agree on this one.

It just seems hard to believe that a very nice 126k W123 sedan would be worth more than a W210 sedan.

The days of W124s and W210 diesels garnering large dollars with mediocre high-mileage are over. If someone wants to please or impress a seller go right ahead, it's just lunacy to do so in today's market. Let 'em keep it is my mantra now.
