i gota share my excitment
two weeks ago i picked up a really rusty 83, 300 turbo for parts. its so rusty you can remove lots of stuff with a smack with a hammer. anyway, no keys, complete car except the glow plug relay. ( that was topic i started a couple weekends ago as i was having trouble with one on another car)
i really wanted to hear this engine run as i was told by the second previous owner that it was great until someone destroyed the rotors somehow and one of the front coils blew thru the body somehow. tonite, i jumped the battery cables, used a battery charger to hot wire the glo plugs and a plier handle to jump the terminals on the fender. i pumped the primer a few times, cranked it over two cylinders worth of compression and the damn thing started. . .. blew a bit of crap out of the pipe (the muffler and related pipe had been destroyed when it was fork lift loaded onto a trailer) and dust and crap from the radiator core came blowing in my face.. i was SOOOOOO pumped. checked the oil pressure instantly, pegged the needle. . . wow ! i let it run about 3 minutes and it warmed up enuf to idle just beautifully, and on acceleration, the turbo wine was actually there. . . sounded soooo good. now i need something other than a 123 body to put it in. some odd ball old car would be great. i had a 46 hudson 4 door i was going to do this to a few years back but te engine i was going to use was junk. then, this spring i finalyl gave up and sold the hudson to a guy in southern wisconsin. so im looking for ideas. . something around 3000 lbs max. and big enuf to be comfortable. . . anyone got any ideas for this old guy ? for the record, i did a nissan 6 cylinder diesel (bought it brand new) into a dodge van with a mopar automatic behind it first, then it went into a 70 dodge pickup with the mopar automatic behind it and a older chev 3 speed with overdrive behind that. it was an awsome marriage. you could split 5 gears before you crossed the intersection. dual exhaust using a split manifold i made, running thru 6 inch chrome stacks without mufflers. this was in about 1976. . .

There are many gorgeous 80s-90s jaguars that look great but have various mechanical problems. Many people do chevy motor conversions.

Don't forget electrical problems. You're in WI, why not a Rebel? Imagine the surprise of a Machine clone with a 617 in it.

I second that. Find an AMC product.l How about a diesel Hornet or Concorde? or a 617 Pacer! That would be a riot For sheer looks a Javelin would be cool, but I bet expensive.

Triumph TR6 if you can afford it, I bet that car would be cool with a diesel in it! Those late 80s Jags are pretty sweet though, always wanted to pick one up and drop an LS1 into it...do a nice chop/section on the roof and it would be nice low and sleek.

There's been a matador marked 'save' in one of the local junkyards forever. At least as long as that pair of VW beetle blinkers hanging by the counter.

If I remember correctly both of those cars came with inline 6 cylinder engines. So, there should be plenty of room forward and aft. Hood clearance problems probably would not be an issue either due to the height of the original inline 6.

The woody wagoneer can barely make 90 with a 360 V8 in it. I don't think a 617 would do well with such a large, heavy vehicle.
Man do I want one...

TylerH - who suggested a Waggy? Or is that your suggestion - that really isn't a suggestion (due to weight)? I also like the idea of the 4WD Eagle wagon that deberger posted - though the fastback is actually better looking...

You could always drop a Cummins Diesel in it. I would think a 5.9L engine MIGHT fit. And I happen to know where a few of them are......
