Non-lighted to lighted sunvisor conversion...

I have an 82 300TD. I think it was made just before Mercedes implemented several changes. She has loop-pyle carpet, a manual sunroof, manual passenger sidemirror (pita!), no map light on the dome light, and non-lighted visors.

Anyone ever convert these visors?

I haven`t converted my visors, since I have a 85. the mirrors get their 12v through the sunvisor clip, and the ground through where the are mounted to the body.

I just replaced the overhead panel the visors, rearview mirror and dome light attach to. and behind it there are some wires going to ea clip.
probably run a wire up the A piller from a hot source with the key on.

Best is go to a PNP and remove the set up and connect to your car.

the dome light with the map light might have been an option. I have found some in the PNP, and have in both cars. really nice.

the pass door mirror, just find a remote control one at the Junk Yard along with the switch control. might have to cut a hole in your wood or find a good console wood with the holes. have to do some wiring.

I think all that stuff was options.....you could order a MB down to the science back then (probably still can)....perhaps the buyer de-checked those options to save $$ on things they didn't need/want. Every W123/W126 I've ever seen has lighted visors....

The map light was not added until the SDL....so that is why its missing. :D I just recently got a dome lamp from a 1988 190E....they had the map light....its a direct swap. So now my '82 SD has a map light in the dome light. :D Just in time too, because the original dome light was dying....

The visor lights actually connect to the dome light power source, and do work with the car powered off.

I got a dome/map light for my '85 300D (W123) from an '82-83 S-class in the local Pick and Pull. As pawoSD says, it is a direct swap, absolutely no changes needed and a nice feature.

Don't know what you would have to do to install visors with lighted vanity mirrors. It may be that all of the attachment holes already exist in the sheet metal.

If you are interested, I might be going back to our local PNP to check the lastest inventory, later this coming week.
there is a 83 300D that I pulled the over head panel from. I can see if I can remove the wire harness that connects to the visors.

as said above, the dome light is just plug and play.

some of the early w123 had just a mirror in the vinal of the visor, I don`t know when they did the nice upgraded ones they have now.

The mirror head that is in the w126, is the same as in the w123. both of mine were broken when we got the car. then found a w126 with good visors (WERE GOOD) until I tore them apart. then installed the mirror heads into the 85. NOTE: do not use hot glue, it does not hold with the high heat in the car on a hot day.
I had the glass shop give me a squirt of that urethane sealant used to seal windshields.

the w126 was a upgrade, the light bulbs have a metal shield covering them so they don`t blind you. also better hinges and switch than my old ones.
