Not yet, but I hope to have one very soon.

I have been in contact with an internet company that manufactures pods for a wide variety of vehicles. They don't make one for our cars, so what I've done is use 1/4" craft foam to make a couple of templates shaped like the pillar cover - both at the bottom near the dash and 12" up from the dash (most dual pod assemblies are about 11"-12" long).

I am sending the templates in to the manufacturer and the sales guy I've been talking to is going to use the templates to figure out which of their pods can best be made to conform to the shape of the pillar in our cars.

I'll be sending them to him Monday and hopefully will have an answer back from him in about a week (they're in NJ and I'm in WA so it will take several days for the templates to even get there).

Stay tuned...

If it is not broken -it needs more guages

I have triple pod guages on all my MB pillars (two 1985 300D & a 1983 300SD ) for the WVO fuel level, WVO temp and H20 temp (of WVO).

I bought the pillar pod units from JC Whitney. Used a heat gun to mold the pillar pods to the shape of the MB pillar. Then spray painted the guage pillar to match the MB interior. Wiring snaked thru the speaker grill corner so it is out of sight. Mounted the Pod with some screws -then painted the screw caps to blend in. Looks stock with digital guages

Why do people feel compelled to do this? Nothing personal 79Mercy - I enjoy reading most of your posts, and you aren't one of the people who ALWAYS seem to be guilty of this...

But WHY do people feel compelled to voice a negative opinion in a thread such as this? If the OP were asking for opinions on adding pillar pods, or how they look, that would be one thing. But that isn't what this thread is about. Obviously the OP doesn't think they look bad or ricey or ugly or whatever and wants to add one to his car.

So what exactly is accomplished by telling him you think they are ugly, or they don't belong in a classy car like a Mercedes, or they look too ricey, or whatever? Does anyone think that they are going to change someone else's mind or win them over to your way of thinking with comments like that? And even if you did (never happen) then... WHAT? Are you going to get applause or kudos or brownie points or something?

Running down someone else's ideas or insulting their taste in accessories accomplishes nothing - except to start endless debates that never get resolved. If the OP likes the look, or feels like it is the best alternative (so do I), then so be it. Its his car and its a free country. Remember what your momma always told you...

If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all [/rant]

Anybody back home you could get to take pictures and send them to you?

Some of us are dying to see what it looks like...

Any idea what brand of pods Whitney sells?

I didn't mean to sound like an *********, but I mean come on... What is the real need for them? Gauges in the center console, I guess I can understand but on the A-pillar, that looks kinda cheap. Thats just my opinion, I didn't mean to ruffle anyones feathers.

If you like it wonderful, go ahead and do it, your not going to bother me. I just thought i'd give the OP something to think about.....

oh, BTW thanks for the compliment...

I had one on my Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel. I don't think they look cheap, if done correctly. It sounds like Marybeth's driver did them correctly. I bet they look pretty good.

Not really "ruffled" per se, just saying that when someone has obviously made up their mind to do a particular mod and they give a well-reasoned argument for it like...
Quote:
"I WOULD LIKE TO PUT MINE THERE BECAUSE IT WOULD BE THE EASIEST PLACE TO SEE THEM AND I CAN HIDE THE WIRING
(the exact same reasons I want to do the same mod BTW)

...then comments like "I think that would be ugly" just seems like a way to start a pointless argument. Again, you're not one of the people who commonly does this, but I wanted to chime in early in hopes of discouraging some of those who do from jumping on the bandwagon.

Anyway, I've seen the ashtray mod and for EGT and boost gauges that you need to keep an eye on, that location is WAY too low and out of my line-of-sight when driving. Besides, I still smoke so I still I use my ashtray for my cigars.

I've also seen the dash-vents mod, but I'm one of those who really likes LOTS of fresh air blowing on me and am totally unwilling to give up my dash vents - though I have to admit that the mod looks good.

I've also seen people mount the gauges on top of the dash in a double binnacle. The only problem with that is there's no way to hide the wires without drilling holes in the dash - not a very appealing alternative either. Not to mention that they don't look any less ricey than the A-pillar pods, IMO.

If they are integrated well, pillar pods can and do look just fine IMO. I have them in my F250 and they look fine. Best of all, the placement is nearly perfect.

Based on his statements, it would seem the OP has also looked at the other alternatives and come to the same conclusion I did - the dual pillar pod is the best solution for me.

Marybeth, there has to be some way you can get pictures of your setup posted for us, PLEASE! A month is too long to wait...

I would like to have a Vacuum and Boost Gauge for sure and I would not mind a Fuel Pressure Garuge and even another Oil Pressure Gauge that does not measure in bar.
I think 4 gauges could be mounted on mine by removal of the wood trim strip between the Glove Compartment and the Steering Wheel.

Pic added later.
Part of it is I keep looking at the spot and thinking what opportunity it offers besides just putting Wood back on.

You gonna cut four 2" holes in the dash? That's an alternative I hadn't considered. Let me think about that one...

NAH, I still want to go the pillar pod route.
