i kind of see it from the other side, forced seems to end up talking with people who are WAAAAYYYYY too sensitive for their own good. i mean, it's just internet words people, about cars, no need to go run and cry and flip out. i think when people build up a lot of knowledge about a certain subject, and THEN have people without that knowledge and experience try to enter the conversation and counter argue something that can't be counter argued, forced would get curt and terse. this seemed to make people get whiny and complain.

as far as stuff with brian goes, i've been here less than a year but i've found a lot of posts where forced would write something short and to the point and brian would post a couple down and say the same thing in a different, maybe less brusk manner, and comment on forced's attitude, behavior, or technical advice. then they would argue about symantics. this would probably annoy me too.

and you're right about goatman, he came into some conversation, started an arguement with forced who i guess knows him from somewhere else, and went whining and crying to get him banned. it worked, and now he's gloating about it (see post #26 and #28). and for your info concerning post #28, i'll ask forced when i have turbo questions. check his backlog of posts goatboy, they speak for themselves.

still, the point for me is that you have to be very careful how you word things here on peach parts forum, because you never know who here is soooo sensitive that they'll actually tattle on you for being curt, direct, just a little grumpy, or have a controversial opinion on any given subject, on or off mercedes topics. again, most people i've seen here get offended by forced think they have more knowledge when they don't, or think that because forced has a "bad attitude" then he can't be taken seriously and nit-pick a fight with him. as stated, if he were to be permanently banned, it would be devestating to those of use newbies who use the seach function all the time and find forced waiting there with the answer.

for now, if you need some answers, just stop by winmutts site for forced.

this seems long but i've wanted to comment on this for while, i can never see why so many people get so upset over this guys style. i can't defend the holocaust hair thing that i read too, but that doesn't mean i'm gonna ban him and argue with him every chance i get.

You couldn't be more right!

I'm pretty neutral on the subject and I see it both ways. The guy really has contributed straightforward and brilliant information! Searching the forums sometimes gets easier when you see his responses to dilemmas.

You just never know how people are going to feel. For all you know they could be going through a bad time like losing their job or divorce or something tragic.

Bottom line is that people who come here are obviously happy to own/repair/maintain a Merc and should leave happy that people even respond to their posts and problems.

I agree with above postings but I feel like a lot of users see this forum as a safe little alcove from the rest of the internet. Swearing and harsh language are rare on here, which is nice because it leaves mainly friendly and informative conversation. I'll admit I have a dirty mouth most of the day but refrain from that language on here...partially to keep things nice and partially out of respect for the vast majority of older/wiser people on here. Yes, its important to still take things with a grain of salt if they turn sour, but I can understand why people may be more sensitive on here than on other forums.

Oh well!

He does have good info to share, and I have given him credit and tried to compliment and encourage his sharing it in a positive manner, whenever I see him doing so. Unfortunately, those occaisions have been few and far between.

HOWEVER, from what I've seen, anyone who disagrees with him, doesn't do things the way HE thinks they should be done, or (God forbid) wants to discuss anything about alternative fuels, is subject to attack by Lance. He's pretty good at being provocative while just skirting along the edge of violating the TOU, but he still crosses the line often enough to accumulate enough points to get banned 3 times in the last year.

Add that to a very superior tone, the diplomacy of a steamroller, the sensitivity of a rock, and a generally unpleasant disposition, and I think Lance has earned every ban he's received. Did you see the thread about using hair from Holocost victims in WWII German textiles manufacturing - before it got deleted? If you read his posts in that one and still want to defend him, then I would suggest you need help as much as he does.

Naturally he's going to say that Brian is picking on him, and he doesn't deserve to be banned. What would you expect him to say? The fact is, the guy gets into verbal fisticuffs with a wide variety of people, and it can't be because there is something wrong with ALL of them, and he's just an innocent bystander...
Absolutely!

I'm sure Lance is a great guy if you met him personally, However he does come over as a 'Know-It-All' and has an extremely unpeasant side--Online...
--If anyone should disagree with him, as I have on occasion, then his response is inflamatory more often than not!

And for gawd's sake, NEVER EVER mention SVO/WVO to him, He has a cardiac!
Some time ago, I had an 'Infraction' against me due purely to His replys and complaints to Moderators

It would appear that Forced' nemesis has earned almost enough infractions for his antics (baiting?) to be Banned himself.. With just over a 100 posts and 8 months on the forum, it would seem that with a record like that, his agenda is something other than contributing to the Forum...

Remember, if you don't feed a Troll it will go elsewhere to gain its sustenance... Selective hearing, a thick skin or an Ignore Button can help pass the time it takes for a Troll to wander off...

If all else fails, there is the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.....

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once at the number three, being the third number be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it."

My positioning statement: "I like Lance and appreciate his knowledge".

I'm not like the blind puppy a page or so earlier licking his boots and all, but I like Lance and enjoy the benefits of his knowledge.
Having said that, there are simple rules to follow. Lance knows this and chooses to cross that line from time to time, knowing the consequences. I wouldn't think he would whine about it like some above are whining for him. I hope he mans up, takes his latest banishment and comes on back.
No need to build a shrine for him in the mean time. He's fine.
Rules are necessary to make the website enjoyable. And civilized. Lots of folks on here with the most knowledge would simply choose to go elsewhere if the forum was degraded to some type of back woods Chevy forum. Their help and knowledge would go with them.
Brian lacks the overbearing ego to be acting as those earlier in the thread have misguidedly accused him of. He is like most of us, especially with some age on us: We don't suffer fools as well as we used to, and we don't want pains in our arses. It is just that simple. Now I'm not putting Lance in the fool column at all. That is more for his blind followers. Or other forum members who we know fall into that category. But we can't just call them out specifically.
Moderators get tired of dealing with the same folks for the same stuff. They can get tired of that without having a vendetta.
And does anybody else hate it like I do when folks address a group or forum starting with the word "People".......

The above was posted while I was typing, and it really strikes a chord with me. It is amazing the folks on here who dish it out then run crying to the mods when they take return fire.
We can't call them that type of cat that they are so closely associated with. Remember, we must be civilized.....

Ya'll keep this up. It is helping me with my ignore list. There are several members who have said all I would ever want to hear from them. Not that I am referring to anyone but, "Evil men rule, when good men do nothing." Thomas Jefferson.

Like Jimmy said, this is a civilized place. Brian is one of the people who keep it that way. There are those of us who intentionally avoid the free-for-all that a lot of forums cater to. You can express disagreement, just do it in a manner that respects rather than puts down the other person. The fact that you disagree with someone doesn't mean you need to make yourself out to be better than them.

FI loves to "dish" but he's also the first to go whining to the mods every time he thinks someone may have said something (in response to his attitude) that crosses the line. I will admit to flirting with the line a bit myself in some of the disagreements we've had, just because his overbearing, know-it-all, self-righteous, and holier (smarter) than thou attitude rubs me the wrong way. Having someone shoving it down everybody's throat that the only RIGHT way to do ANYTHING is THIER way just gets under my skin. Particularly when the indivdual does it just for the entertainment of starting controversy.

As others have said, he has a wealth of knowledge that IS beneficial to the forum, he just needs to grow up, be more considerate of other people and realize that he doesn't know everything there is to know and other's ideas may have as much merit as his own.

Here's a classic FI post he pulled quickly, otherwise he would have been banned. There are plenty of talented folks here that know quite a bit, what we need are those folks who can also be civilized, as Jimmy asks. I think he disrupts in a greater amount than he contributes, and having been banned here what 3? 4? 5? times and nearly every other site as well I'm not the only person who thinks this way. We can see who is advice is less than stellar by ourselves.
