engine shock on 240TD?

My 240TD has no engine shock although there is a hole in the frame where it would normally be. I have the shock on the 300TD parts car I have, but as there was no engine in it, I don't know what the mount looks like for the block. Was the shock only used on the 300's? Was it's purpose to limit the rocking of the engine at idle?

auto or manual trans?

The auto has one on the drivers side of the engine accessible from below.
The manual does not have one.
The mount is a set of metal caps and rubber spacers that attach to either end of the shock

Yes, it mostly works at idle, but just in general it keeps the thing from bucking back and forth. I can't help you with the interchangability, though I'd just try it out and see if it fits.

So none of the manual equipped cars had an engine shock?

Nope, no manuals with engine shocks. The MB factory manual states that they should not have one. Manuals and autos with one shock also have a third mount behind the oil pan to limit the movement of the engine. I took mine out 3k miles ago in the hopes of getting a smoother ride. No luck. Autos with two shocks do not need the third mount.

Some cars were fitted with 2 shocks, some were fitted with a second at the dealer, and some only had one. They are either attached to the arm that supports the engine or behind the oil pan in retrofit cases. The third mount is behind the pan as I said earlier. Its just a limiter that keeps the motor from moving to far up and down. If you look up parts for a manual 240D you will see it under engine mount.

The "3rd mount" is actually referred to as the "engine stop" in the FSM. It's a mount between the front of the engine and the front crossbar of the frame. It's only on the manual tranny 240D, which has no engine shocks.

IIRC the stop is on the one shock and no shock engines.
