For others who may be interested in where to get a official Manual:
This is the site to get the offical Mercedes manual on CD it is $19.99 + $7 shipping in the US.
If it is like the 123 manual it covers the complete Car with the exception of rebuilding the transmission.
While some Members have complained about the quality of the pictures it otherwise is the best buy for your money just due to the volume of information given.

http://www.classictechlit.mbusa.com/MB/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=Retail&category%5Fname=1009%28ClassicTechLit%29&product%5Fid=QL%2D6516%2D0507%2D02%28ClassicTechLit%29

If you want to spend the money on printed books (and you would need a set of around 5 books to match the info that is in the on CD manual) the official manuals frequently turn up on Ebay.

If you have problems just play around with it until you get to the English Manuals. Like it was said less diplomatically, the opening pages are Polish.

I use this site all the time for my W124.

The Polish site has images from the factory CDs. AFAIK, only the W123 set is still available from Mercedes so it's nice to have this library.

Poke around in there and you will find some interesting stuff.

On the left lide at the bottom, click on "Dane techn-en" and there is a list of all Mercedes ever built and all the info you will ever need on ea model

Click on "Glosariusz" and there is some w114/w115 info 617 info etc....

there are some sites that will translate to english, google should get you to one.
