Well I broke it... now how do I get it out!?

'82 300TD....

Broke the tranny modulator pin (should have ordered a replacement with the new modulator! Dang!) when pulling out the old modulator. The cup/pin broke off just at the top of the pin, nearly where the pin meets the cup... the bad news is that the other half is still up in the hole somewhere! I can't feel it... I assume it's down in the hole. How on earth can I get it out of there?

Picks and tweezers, forceps, needle nose pliers.

Have a great day.

Yeah no kidding!

I just got it out, but it was nothing short of surgery! Especially considering I had to do it blind. I unbolted my tranny and lowered it down, but that wasn't enough for me to be able to see into the hole.

I guess my primary concern is that I was going to damage something in the tranny but fiddling with that pin scrap.

Got it out, epoxied it back together (with a steel pin in it to help reinforce) and it's drying right now. Here's hoping the patch-together holds!

When you can buy a new pin for less than $3....why epoxy the old one back together???

Good question;

I have the modulator open right now, and I can't get a replacement pin immediately.

I suppose....at the very least I'd obtain a new pin in the meantime and then put it in.

Is there a chance of breaking a new one during installation? Or, are the new ones more flexiable?

Its very unlikely that a new one would break during installation, it just fits into the opening.....not much to it.
