Hot Start Issue

I have an 84 300d, car starts flawlessly every time I start it cold, i searched the forum and fuel blockage seems to be frequent, however mine appears to be more of a starter issue. The car will not crank at all, if I turn the key four to five times it kicks right over, so I'm guess the starter is getting too hot? Or it's just on it's way out. Any other ideas?

Thanks

When it is hot see if it will Crank OK if you use a jumper wire (use a rag or cotton/leather gloves to hold the wire) across the Terminal Block in front of the Battery. The 2 screws on the Left are connected together already. Jumper from left of the plastic devider to the small screw on the right

If jumping ther terminal block works OK every time you man have an Ingition Switch problem or a Nutral Safety Switch Problem.

You can find out if you give the Starter Solenoid a wack with something made of wood inbetween to see if it jars something in the solenoid.

Always a good idea to check and (safely) clean all the Electrical Connections before discarding the Starter.

The area labled "Contacts" is a area in the Solenoid that can get burned up over time. One member claimed he takes the Solenoid apart and rotates those copper contacts to a fresh spot that is not burned. I have not tried this so I do not know if it is difficult to do or not.

I did whack the starter with a piece of teak i had in the car last night and it started perfectly. Sounds like i'm due for a new starter.

I am having a similar problem

Starts every time cold. When it is hot outside and I drive it any distance and then run into the store for 5 minutes it will not crank until it cools down for 15 min os so. I can hear the solenoid pick up in the starter....just won't turn over. The starter is relatively new. 2 years old maybe.

Well i replaced the starter today, fun little project. I think my starter was on it's way out for a while. Used to take crank a little slow a couple times, then start. With the new starter I basically bump the key and it starts instantly.
