500k badge..how to install
I received my 500K badge and cannot figure out how to install it. Am I missing a part or something? There is the badge, the plate with the numbers, two studs with nuts and the rubber washers.
Was there also supposed a mounting plate that goes behind the grill that the studs would pass through? Anyone have a picture of the back of the badge as installed? |
My 250k badge had a plastic mounting plate included. Maybe they forgot to add that.

Just spoke with MB Classic and they said the plastic mounts are on back order and they might have shipped the badges without them. I did not see the plastic tabs in the boxes. Maybe I can make my own. They said they'll ship them when they come back in stock.....
I guess they should look like these, are there 2 per badge? http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/vbpicgallery.php?do=big&p=2170#photo |

Make sure you check clearance of the studs. On my 99 I had to cut them to prevent them from hitting when the hood was closed.

Good point, I had the same problem with my '85 300D. With the studs snagged on whatever it was they snagged on, I couldn't open the hood.
You can use fender washers until the correct plastic piece shows up. |

Good call on the fender washers :) I'll see what I have lying around in the screw/bolt/etc dump all drawer.

I'm disappointed. I bought one of the older MB 500K badges and wow they were nicer. Will dig one out and photo it. I have seen the Canadian version of the 1,000,000 km badge and it's a cast work of art... It's amazing to me how short-sighted and penny-pinching MBUSA can be when it comes to spectacular achievement. |
My 500k badge came without the backing, too. I bought to rubber washers and used them to bolt it up on the back of the grille. Hasn't fallen off yet.:)

when I orderd mine, I think it was about 3 weeks. I put in for the 250,000 and the 500,000 the same time. they came with the plastic piece`s as shown in the above picture. I think I had to shorten the studs some also.
later on I found one at PNP that was an older one, a 200,000KM. they made them better yrs ago, this one seems to be blue porcilin instead of paint and has two brass screws that go in from the front. Charlie |
