Pump the heck out of the hand pump until it gets harder to pump. To make sure remove the "cigar" return hose and pump until you get fuel flowing out of it.

There's no such thing as a hand pump on that engine. The procedure according to the owners' manual after you run the car out of fuel on the highway is to simply hope your battery is in good shape and hold the starter for 60 seconds without giving it a break, with your foot on the floor. The system is self-priming if your electrical components are up to that kind of abuse.
If you can't get it to light off in 60 seconds, let the starter cool 15-30 minutes at a minimum just for insurance before you try the same thing again. I've started mine this way before after running out of fuel on the road; it lit up in 50 or 55 seconds of constant cranking and stayed running. I don't know if the rules are different after you've had the system open but I'd start with that method. |

Loosen the Injector Hard Line Nuts at the Injectors and crank until you see Fuel Comming out of all of them. Tighten up the Injector Hard Line Nuts and attempt to start.
The self priming part is in the Fuel Supply or Low Pressure System of the Fuel Injection Pump Housing. In the High Pressure part of the system if air gets trapped between the Delivery Valves and the Injectors inside of the Hard Line it tends to compress alot and move only a little; this causes a lot of stree on your starting system. Loosening the Fuel Injection Hard Lines up at the Injectors allows a path for the Air to get out of; making the bleeding of the High Pressure part of the system faster.
