Jesus, what a project

im trying to take the regulator off my 300D tonite. its just not working. two little screws and it falls out in your hand, right ? NOT !! after about 3 decent sized brandys, and a couple hours of trying everything in the line of screwdrivers including sawzall blades, i still cannot get the bottom screw loose. im tellin ya, im about ready to blow the fargin car up. i figured ok, i will loosen the belts and just swing the alternator down, and make the thing more acccessable. . . . . . WRONG ! i cannot loosen the hinge bolts so its tighter than ........................................ i finally had to quit. i was ready to get the gas wrench out and burn it off. . . . .

im going to disconnect the big hoses that are held in a support by the oil pan bracket tomorrow. . . . if that does not help me get into the damn screw i will attempt to just grind it off with a dremmel or a die grinder and a carbide burr. . . . . . how frustrating. besides that, i need to remove the one from the parts car and see if its better than the one thats now in the driver. so i gota go thru this twice............................................................. Lord help me !

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!! !! !! !!

I see after looking at some of your previous posts that you know what you are doing, so I don't think my post will be of any help, so I edited it. I hope you get it figured out.

If it's any help to you, I cannot function mechanically on cars after drinking. Have to be sober. I never had any trouble with my 300SD, but I could have used a third arm when R&Ring it. Did my first R&R on the parking lot of the then Blackwell Chevrolet / Mercedes-Benz on I-55 in Jackson, Mississippi. Had my jackstands, hydraulic floor jack, tools, etc. with me. It was the dead of winter a bunch of years ago and it had snowed a little the night before. Geez, I'm glad those days of wrenching on the Mercedes-Benz dealer' lots are over. Ha!

I use the anti-seize on all lug nuts, whether the tire shop monkeys like it or not. Either that or JB Weld.

Feelin your pain... Persistence is the key. Walk away, go destroy something insignificant (no wrenches through the drywall would be nice), and hopefully it'll get better. Wishing you well.

I've had some stubborn bolts but not that screw, spray it with a penetrant and try, try again.

Stories like this one make me grateful that I have a 240D, except when I'm merging on the freeway of course. Ever since I pulled the York compressor, I can change a starter and regulator from the top of the car.
BTW, a new regulator shouldn't cost more than $30-35.00. Unless you know that the other one is pretty fresh, I wouldn't bother with it.

i wish you wouldnta said that.................................... after wiggling and spraying and heating and everything else i do with a stuck stud/screw the %#$&* thing snapped right off clean as a whistle....

with a few new words like @%#$^ and ^%$#@^* and a couple others i aint never heard before, i guess i need to pull the alternator.

now, where are the bolts that hold it in ? ? ? ? ? ? ? damn old eyes, its either too close, too far away or and too dark.. .. .. lets start with the easy one on the bottom first............. uggggggg. tight. maybe a wiggle or ten will get it going. . . oh yea now were logging. i got a ratching box wrench so this shouldn;t take long, RIGHT ! then theres the nut up there that holds the adjustment bolt and stud and junk , that should not be too difficult. har de har. not true either.

i did discover that like my old 200d, to get to anything that you cannot see with both eyes, you need to start removing stuff. like the air cleaner assembly, then the inlet hose, and finally the u-shaped turbo hose, , ,

aaaahhhh now i can see stuff. humm, whats this ? whats that ? stuff that control the turbo. cool, now i know where it is anyway.

back to the fargin alternator. i have only one nut left to try to loosen. thats the one thats just behind the alternator belts, tight next tothe pulley they go on............... my wrenches and arms are not made to go there. i suppose thats where special mb tool number ***** come in. i don;t have that one for sure.

what a royal pain in the butt. . . i really hope im on the right track. one left and this thing should drop on the ground, right ? ? or should i expect more crap to be holding it ?

then i can drill out and tap the little 54#$!@#^% bolt and do it all again only backwards.........................................................

more to follow !

when I attempted to fix my vacuum modulator I instantly stripped out both screws. I tried everything under the sun to get them barstards out. I ended up with my craftsman ratchet through the drywall and my nextel in three pieces! i ended up taking it to my indy. Best $125 bucks ever spent.
