Valve Adjustment help - too tight for feeler gauge
hello All - trying to adjust my valves on my 617 motor - 1st valve is so tight (exhaust) that I cannot get my 014 feeler in there, so if I imprison the large collar nut which wants to turn too - do I turn lower adjusting nut cw or ccw in order for me to then get the adjustment I need so that I can open up clearances? Thanks!

First you should check the archives on this because lots of great threads tell about all the tricks and problems....
The lower nut is the LOCK nut... as you are looking at both those nuts from the TOP you will need to turn them clockwise to retreat from the cam. I had three of the valve collars try to turn on me... once I got the special wrench for them everything went ok... I made the nesting bent wrenches for the nuts... out of Sears wrenches...
