Because we want to have a relationship with our car and want to believe that it wants to have a relationship with us as well. Like when something breaks and we feel guilty because we didn't change the oil on schedule and think the car is letting us know how it feels.

My cars do this all the time. I wonder if they know my name?? Hmmm. I never thought about this before. Do they care as much about me as I care about them?

I named my '85 Rusty because its rust colored, after all the paint came off because of the lousy water based painting method MB used that year.

My '87 blue 300D was given the moniker Blue Bomb by my friend Janet, because of all the attention it got at Larry's Garage. Plus I drive it like a hot rod I guess.

the rest of the cars remain unnamed until something pops in my mind. My yellow (I believe MB calls in Tuska for Ivory) '79 300TD was named the banana because its long and yellow, like the first '79 300TD that MB sent to America for John Lennon and Yoko had it repainted yellow because it was originally green and she hated green or so they say.
this whole name thing is really trivial isn't it?

I like the hood. But T3 needs a good polishing compound treatment to the hood followed by a good paste waxing. Please proceed with this procedure and then repost an updated picture. And try to get her in a little better lighting if you don't mind.

I gave mine names so I wouldn't have to say 'the champagne 1983 300SD' and 'the blue 1984 300SD' over and over again. Instead they are respectively Alice and Kate.

yeah I need to take her out for some glamor shots. shes been parked on the side yard and only going out for the occasional trip to the hardware store for the past few months. I just put the SD in the garage for a major overhaul (hoping to have the SD back on her feet for my birthday in October) so until then T3 and I will be doing some bonding.

We have always named our MB's and LBC's - easier than saying "the 300CD"

SirNik84 NAILED IT! I have had (to name a few), a '85 Riviera Diesel, '79 Peugeot Diesel,'81 Olds Diesel, '82&'83 Peugeot 505S TD, '83 Peugeot 604 TD, '83 Peugeot 504 wagon, '85 Mercedes 300CD, '85 300D, '82 TD and a few more thrown in there. They ALL had/have their own distict personality and moods. I could tell going down the road what she F'ing wanted/needed and soon! I talk to them (usually when they are bad) and smile about a relationship that can be more pleasurable and painful than any human being can. Oh and yes; they are all women and I do know all of their names and current whereabouts.

My Wife had a name for the 240D before we even got to the PO's house to look at it. I knew it was coming home then. It's been Flo ever since.

I think we name our cars because I know y'all are like me and you spend as much or more time in, under, or thinking about these MB's as you do with the rest of your family.

It's not only use wrench heads that name out cars though. I know plenty of folks that don't spend any time tinkering on their car and they still have names for them. We all spend so much time in out cars these days that we can't help but give them a name.
