Engine stumbles on cold start-1982 300D Turbo

When started cold, the engine stumbles when pressure is off the accelerator. As the engine warms this condition subsides but does not completely go away.
This problem started after the following work was done at the local MB dealership. 1. Valve adjustment, 2. new timing chain, rail & tensioner, 3. replacement of five vacuum elements, 4. new rack screw.
When the car was first picked up it actually stalled while driving at a low speed when foot was removed from the accelerator. I returned it to the dealer and they adjusted the rack screw. Before I take it back I would appreciate any suggestions from the knowledgeable members of this great list.

Diesels dont like cold but it should only be fussy for the first few seconds of starting.. then it should even out. It will be abnormally slow for a few minutes until things get warmed up too. If you experiencing excessive shaking, try adjusting the rack dampener screw on the back of the injection pump in a little.

all seven of my 240's had the same problem.
most of the time it was fuel quality or lack of it.
try putting some diesel purge in.
