Wood Key
1 Attachment(s)
I finally got tired of the cheap plastic replacements for the key heads, I've gone through three in the past couple years. With the idea from Patbob, I made my own out of wood. It's much stronger, and looks was cooler too.

Amazing!
You should sell those, I bet you would have an eager market!
|
I'd be happy to make them for folks but they'd have to send me a key, as the key is custom fit into the wood.
|
Whoa!
Now, that's a really cool idea, I love it! Jim |
If you do a search you will find others have done these. I did mine but it was a rush job and it looks that way so some day I want to go back and do it nice. Yours came out very nice, what kind of wood did you use?
|
It's made from Myrtle wood from the Oregon Coast Mt Range.

The only way to go.....No more broken key heads
I highly encourage this procedure. Andrew just completed one for me and it looks FANTASTIC!!:)

Glad your happy with it. I put a lot of coats on it so it should hold up for a long time. I still need to finish mine. I had it glued up before I got your key, and it still isn't done.:o
Here is a pic of the key I sent to member diesel85 |
Someone at my indy's had a very similar one made from steel. He used three layers of steel plate and pinned them together then policed it smoth, it looked pretty nice too.
|
That does look very cool...and classy.
But do plastic heads really break that often? I've never had that happen to me. |

I broke one this year as well.
So who do I have to PM the next time one breaks :o |

The new replacement key heads suck. I've broken several in the last few years. The original molded plastic keys that came with the cars are solid. And don't brake nearly as easily. |

here's what I did... it's really strong, and holding up well.
