rivets strengh and lengh for the perch?

On the MB sheet, it says use only high strengh rivet and countersink rivet on the spring plate.
Anyone knows what rivets are needed, strengh, lengh etc... and where could I get them in the UK?
The tool suggested is the most powerfull rivet tool, the taurus 4, could I get away with a pro style strong hand rivet took?
Thank you.
Olivier

Is not MB Uk doing these under Warranty/Goodwill?

It's clearly a defect.

Steel are the strongest pop rivets you can get .if each piece of metal is 1/8 " I would get 1/2" length.

I have been refused so far due to the age of the car(?)but still wait on a last answer. The number of perch sold in the last 12 month is over 2000. This surely tell something. Sure a defect.

W210 Diesel owners: Spring Perch Failure - Please read

This is a SAFETY issue, correct installation is critical.
If you do not have the correct tools and parts, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS REPAIR.
Mercedes Benz spent millions testing all types of spring perch repair, assembly tools, durability/safety factors, etc, etc, the final result is the service procedure you see.

Overkill

With all due respect to WHunter and the millions of dollars paid to these engineers to design a bandage to fix a very poor design, I can see four key rivet locations on each perch to hold these perches on. The four bottom rivets (two on the left and two on the right) are the only ones going into heavy gauge steel. any rivets above these are going into very thin gauge steel. I cannot see putting seven additional rivets through this thin gauge steel doing any good. The upward pressure of the spring pushes the perch against the thin gauge wheel well. I think all those rivets are way overkill. Just my 2 cents Jim

The thinner the sheetmetal the more need to evenly spread the load... that may account for those that look ' extra'...

How much would those extra rivets cost ? Not much, thus they may be playing it safe... after messing up in the first place...

Clearly, M/B needs a very strong rivet if they are only using four of them on each side. If you choose to use four, then I wouldn't deviate from their recommended procedure and rivet gun.

However, if the load is distributed across more rivets, each rivet can carry less load and requires less tensioning with the gun.

I repaired two rear spring purchases on a Michigan vehicle with pop rivets. However, I used about 30 of them for each side of the vehicle. Worked fine.

Don't know if the 210's configuration will allow a large complement of rivets, however.

Not really much space there, four holes on the bottom of each "arm" side of the perch. Look at the PDF above on my first post. I am wondering about the 3 inside the cup? What to do with those? Nothing? No rivets?
Cheers.
