Doesn't sound like a diesel at all. It's more like a dying lawnmower.

Gives close to 50mpg, scoots quicker to 60mph than most gasser V6, doesn't need special urea to make it run, what else can you ask for.

Notice that is a UK ad? When will Honda launch diesels in the USA? VW is offering diesel models of cars like the Tiguan SUV in the UK that are only gas engined here in the US.

I drove the 2009 VW Sportwagen TDI. It pulls like a V8. Can't wait to get one. VW can barely keep up with demand for the Jetta and Jetta Sportwagen. People also want the new TDI in Passats and Golf. I don't know when that will happen.

The ad, right down to Garrison Keillor singing is spot on marketing for the sandal-wearing NPR set in the US. Surprised I haven't seen it here yet, after Nova or Antiques Roadshow.

Honda was going to offer them her. Back in 2006 I met a man in Fort Wayne, IN who was chosen by Honda as part of a marketing study to drive an Accord diesel for a few hours. This man is (or was) a die hard Mercedes or nothing guy. He had nothing but positive comments about the car. I found it humorous when he said that car car could go 120mph. I asked him how he knew that to be valid. He told me he know of a road in the area for just such a thing and that he drove the car himself at 120mph.

I think Honda changed their minds about selling it here when the diesel prices hit $5/gallon in 2007. Too bad. Honda had numerous patents on that engine. And I had never heard of a bad Honda engine.

Yeah, Honda is a good brand, their diesels would last forever, it's a shame they don't market them in the U.S. Converting the rest of the family to diesel would be easier if Honda made some. The commercial was good too.

IMHO, the ad is more interesting for the computer-generated graphics. OTOH, I discussed this subject (diesels in USA, not necessarily Honda). He agreed with me that GM ruined the US diesel passenger car market with its Cadillac and Oldsmobile abortions and it will take a generation to recover. Thanks for posting this, Sixto.

Both the same thing. Hyundai makes a number of diesels in Europe, although the Hyundai accent 3Cyl diesel wagon was voted THE worst car on Top Gear
