1999 E300 TurboDiesel Electrical Problem

In my 1999 E300 TurboDiesel the power seats stopped working, the mirror stopped adjusting, the windows stopped working and the locks stopped working. All of these were working before.Any ideas as to what this could be.

Check all of the fuses first. Your car has several fuse panels -- your first job is to learn where they all are.

Or on the left in USA cars (see, we do have somethings on the left besides politicians). SNP, there's a little trim panel that you can see if you open the driver's door and look at the side of the dash thus revealed.

SNP, there is a sticky or DIY thread on this forum that has pictures of fuse panel cards for all sorts of Mercedes. If you can find your car in that collection, it may help you figure out the fuses.

If it isn't a fuse, it may be one of the "convenience" modules. Your car has a number of these that make it possible for you to roll up all the windows and close the sunroof with the remote lock, for example. Unfortunately, they are much more expensive than fuses.

If the fuse was burned out then I would not say the problem is "solved" but rather it has been identified. Under normal operating conditions fuses don't burn out. It is possible for fuses to break under normal operating conditions from fatigue which might not mean there is a problem but if the fuse was burned up then I would guess you still have an issue that will cause it to fail again. Just be sure you don't do what so many people do when a fuse burns out - replace it with one of higher capacity. That's an invitation to an electrical fire.

I am an advocate of what the last poster stated. First try every acessory on that circuit individually to see if activating one takes the fuse again. If not there probably is a transient short somewhere that will announce it's prescence eventually again.

I would also examine the fuse holder critically for any sign of corrosive buildup as that could cause difficulty as well. Or examine the ends of the blown fuse to see if they are really clean.
