Thanks everyone.

Yeah I'll check for rust, an lots of other things. I don't think there should be to much major rust because it was stored under a shelter.

Any particular ay to check the vacuum pump? Other than making sure it puts out about 20" of vacuum.

The glow plugs are no issue.

Thanks again everyone

I talked to the owner today.

The was was from Socal and when they moved here to FL they had it trucked here. The car has one small rust area on the drivers door about the size of a quater. The interior is in great condition minus the drivers seat. It needs a new horse hair pad and a new cover, the cover is ripped on the side.

It has 173K. Headliner is stained and is sagging in the back.

He has another guy interested that is going to see it friday, so i'll go see it Saturday if he doesn't buy it.

Only way I know is to check the hose leaving the pump (not the vacuum one) for oil.

I went to see the car today... The vacuum pump was good, but I wasn'tto worried about it.

It needs, brakes, sway bar links, subframe mounts, tie rods, AC and heater don't work, it needs horse hair all around, vacuum work, drivers side window reg, front and rear window seal, valve adjustment, all fluids, throttle linkage was screwed up I could barely gain speed.

And thats was with a 45min inspection.

I'd say its worth 500-600.

There's nicer ones out there. Most are probably 240D's. The rear window seal is available, but I wasn't able to find a new rear window, and a glass shop won't guarantee that they won't break the existing window when replacing the seal. They even broke the new front windshield when they were installing it..had to wait another couple days to get a new one in.

Is there rust?

one small bubble on the drivers side c-pillar, a tiny bit of surface rust on the trunk floor.

I know where I can get window seals for about 70 each.

one of these would be a great car with a turbo diesel and preferably a stick.
I really prefer the way they drive to the w123, just slooowww.
And they rust. A lot.

The "bad" list doesn't sound all that bad. If there's no rust, the rest is pretty normal. This is the one in Lake City?

For that price it is worth it. I agree about the window seals - not good. I got a new window seal for my SD and then chickened out after reading about the 50% or so success rate without breaking the glass. Called around a number of shops and they wouldn't stand by their work as they were too scared of breaking it too. The solution? Two tubes of 3M window sealer. Not pretty, but quite functional. I still have my window seal brand new if the w126 would fit yours....I can't verify this though, maybe some of the experts can chime in.

Overall, sounds like a straightforward deal, lots of simple routine maintenance stuff...good project car.

I forgot to mention that i'll need to install a oil cooler and cooler lines. He by-passed the oil cooler because it was leaking.

I made him a offer of 800 but he wouldn't take it.
