Sign of the down economy, or any old excuse will do?

It looks like US car buyers will continue to be denied choices in automotive power.

From the July 13, 2009 issue of AUTOWEEK -

"Mainstream carmakers put the brakes on nine diesel-powered vehicles scheduled for 2010.
Honda, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Nissan and Toyota have halted diesel programs because of spiraling costs and other considerations" Automotive News reports.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Notice the ones that halted have or are developing an over hyped "hybrid".

It should say "Oil companies paid off the following companies to keep diesels out of the US"....

Typical. Not that I care, less lines at the diesel pumps....its not like I'd have bought one of those anyways!

Not that I'm in the market for a new diesel, but it would have been nice to see some other choices besides Mercedes and VW. The article DID go on to say that BMW was still planning to sell their diesel in the US.
But in particular, I would have liked to have had a look at some other, more affordable diesels, from carmakers with a better overall reliability reputation than Volkswagen, like the highly touted Honda Accord diesel - a model that, awhile back, I commented on this Forum something like "I'll believe it when I see it. By the time Honda gets around to bringing their diesel here, fuel prices will be so high, we'll all be cycling or walking!"

Well, we wouldn't want them to sell anything that is truly economical and people want to buy, right? I am in the market for a new diesel...or will be in about 6 months.
