A/C low pressure values?

It's hot out today and my A/C blows cold but it's only coming out the side vents. Does A/C come out the middle 2 vents? It's cold but I wanted to get it even colder so I bought one of those kits from Walmart. I check the low pressure with the gauge and it is off scale 80psi. Is it defective? It goes back to zero when I pull it off. The A/C system was retrofitted to R134 by the PO 3 years ago. Thanks.

you need a real set of gauges, we need to know the high side. You had 80PSI with the compressor on, correct? Thats high...

Im not sure if its overcharged or the expansion valve is bad, we need high side readings to determind that.

Harbor Freight has a fairly good set of gages, I have a set and I think they were about $40.

Its pretty hard to diagnose a/c problems without high and low side pressure readings.
