Fixed shimmy \ shake from 45-50 mph
 

My w126 would shake from 45-50, balanced new Bridgestones on , still did it.

When the car was jacked up, I grabbed the tire and checked for slop.

Everything was tight; except:

Only slop was front to back, tie rod and pass side was a little loose. Replaced that

and damper, (idler rebuild kit was installed 2 years ago, some movement there too.)

still shook 45-50, one turn on tie rod sleeve NO More shake. No toe in!

Had other side tie rod assy for dr side installed this morning, steering wheel

wasn't centered, had to move both sleeves 1 1/2 turns 1 in 1 out, fixed.

Now 1/8 " before I get it aligned.

Cost 2x $11.99 tie rod assy, damper $26.:D

I removed my Steering Damper over 1 year ago. No negative problems caused by not having it.
Removing it made it slightly easier to steer at slow speeds where you are using 1 hand on the wheel; like when backing up into the narrow street in front of my house when it is wall to wall parked cars.

My old damper was not that "loose"

One tie rod on each assy was actually tight, other was "looser" I'm sure it

would have worked fine on a older Ford or Chev.

Real sensitive I guess, but drives a lot better than a old F/C.
