The entire light assembly is different, and you'll need a 6-wire plug like your tail-lamps have.

Also, the US headlamp wipers aren't compatible. You'll either have to do without, or switch to the Euro wipers and matching filler panels below the headlamps.

Another possibility is to find a '94/'95 set of US/DOT headlamps, the '94/'95 headlamps are essentially the euros (and the wipers/filler) with a little indent in the lense for the later hood/grille.

You have to replace the entire headlight assembly. You will also lose the headlight wipers unless you opt for them as an expensive option. Euro headlights are unfortunately expensive -- two or three hundred dollars apiece plus the wipers.

I personally never liked the wipers, mine were broken anyway, so I just took them off and replaced the little under-headlight panels with blanks, available from the dealer for $11 each.

My Euro headlights were sold me by another forum member. They were made by Hella; he bought them for a project that never got done so I saved a few bucks.

The light pattern is really good, far better than DOT lights, with the kick-up to illuminate the right side of the road (reminds me of BMW motorcycle headlights). On the car they look completely stock so it is very unlikely that a cop or DMV inspector would ever think to look closely (they do not carry a DOT logo and so are not really legal in the US of A).

I recently bought some (glass lensed) Depo model Euro headlights (roughly around $200 - new with shipping). I have seen a few people complain on forums about lights that aren't Bosch, but have actually been happy with these. They were brand new, seem to be of decent construction, and the lenses can be replaced with Bosch ones if you crack it down the road.

The last Bosch ones I bought on Ebay were old and nasty and cost about the same and one of them had a bunch of broken parts inside it, so make sure you are careful if you go the used route.

Check ebay.de for Euro lenses. Search under "W124 Scheinwerferglas." When you find an auction, change the ".de" portion in your browser to ".com" and it'll change the prices to US dollars. Also double check to make sure the lens is for a car that's LHD/Right hand traffic so you won't blind oncoming drivers. Most glass on ebay.de should be LHD/Right hand traffic because Germans drive on the same side of the road as we do.

I emailed Phil and also a couple other sites and nobody could get them. Phil told me that MBUSA has them blocked in the US. Guess my only option other than aftermarket is checking in Germany.

I was checking ebay.de this morning and was using Google translator to translate the page so I could at least stumble my way though. Thanks for the .de to .com tip, I'll try that now and see what I get.

You might have to buy US '94/'95 lenses instead? How about through Canada?

Well, found some Depos on Fleabay for $128 + 28 shipping. It was for the pair of headlights. Looks like that's where I'm going when the time comes.

Since I'm out here in the boonies with no access to a MB dealer, what would be a good source for the 6-wire plugs? Also, how are they wired?

Phil at FastLane should be able to get the plugs for you. I can't find the wiring diagram from when I did mine, sorry.

Thanks, Jeremy, I'll see if Phil can help me out.

BTW, I could care less for those stupid, non-working headlight wipers. I'll just pull the blades, shafts & motors and plug the holes with something. Then I can use the panels already on the car.
