Personal anecdote...just replaced a Costco battery with another Costco in my old daily driver Mercury, bought it new in '94. The Costco battery lasted 7+ years with -20f winter starts every year. The original Motorcraft also lasted 7+ years same environment. May see if this one lasts that long, too, still like the car. If Johnson Controls made all of these batteries, then they really do make great stuff.

Also, bought a JC Penney battery for my old '69 230 sedan when the original battery failed back in '73...the JCP battery came with a lifetime guaranty. Still have that car, too, and still get free batteries from JCP...you should see the bewildered looks on the faces of the customer service people when I show up with my tattered guaranty papers to get a fresh battery. JCP got out of the automotive line decades ago...probably because of their lifetime guaranty. Last one I got was an Interstate, before that it was a Firestone, before that, I can't remember...LOL

I dunno if I should mention it and jinx it- (I've had a Walmart battery in the 190 since 2005 and no problems, starting in the cold and all)- so I won't.

Oh- and about the free batteries from JCPenny- I have to thank you for that- it was the biggest laugh I've had in weeks.

Indeed; I had a temp job at a Battery Comany, Globe Union. While my job was only manual labor I was rignt next to the Production Line and the conveyer.
Where I saw Battries labeled Mobile, Shell, Texaco, Sears, Diehard and so on going down the conveyer.
They indeed made batteries with all different brand names.
I also think that they were an international company even back in 1973 when I worked there. They were also a Union shop and even as a temp worker I got $7.65/hour just as a laborer; min wage was $2.65 or less at that time.

Monday morning the old trusty Datsun didn`t have enough oomph in the battery to rotate the engine. first time I ever had a problem with the battery.
So threw on the old charger, and she finally kicked over after about 15 min. (I was headed for PNP, so I was on a mission) drove 13 miles up to Scotts Valley for fuel, jumped in and no start . good that drive way had a little slope to it, popped clutch and off we went back to Santa Cruz to Costco for a battery.

I bought the battery from Costco 3-2-2000, so that makes it 9yrs and 5mo`s. sure can`t complain about that. Think the new one was $72

Note: I finally did make it to PNP

yup, an old thread, and it no longer applies... wallyworld now only carries the single flip up handle batteries...
5.5 years isn't terrible, but longer is better of course.

Yes and the new style, branded Maxx, does not seem to be holding up the rep of the old one (and has gone up in price twice in the last two years from what I can tell).

I have mine (12 months old) in the trunk waiting to be exchange. The old Engergizer my wrench pulled out of a junked BMW 7-series is holding a charge better.

Someone else had a similar comment about the new style in a post some months ago.
