water passage on my 83, 300D
is there really a drain somewhere in the vent that"s between the rear door and the back window ?
i gotta believe that thats where all my water is coming from into the trunk on the drivers side. ( i did make a catch system to catch the water and put it in a bucket in the trunk instead of the dam carpet.) is there any pictures of how this drain is situatated and what is required to clean it out, somewhere ?

Where is the water collecting because if it is collecting under the rugs in the rear it is likely to be a leaking windshield. Be more specific where the water is collecting.

thanks for responding to my poorly worded post, maybe this will help make it more understandable. . . . . i hope someone has a good answer.
the water is dripping in the trunk, on the drivers side, and the drips are coming down onto the rear spring / shock tower. i have had the rear window sealed and that made no difference sadly to say. i read somewhere that there was a drain in the area just behind the upper door post, where the drip rail from the roof would be channeling the water toward the top of the rear fender. . . . i have a junker body and i pulled the trim back thats on the rear area of the drip rail, and can see where air is most likely vented from the interior of the trunk when your driving to keep the cabin from getting a positive pressure in it. . . . . but i cannot for the life of me, find any kind of drain in those hidden air vents. and if i know where the drain was suppose to exit underneath the car, i would just blow air pressure backwards to un-plug the dang thing. whew !

The sunroof drains down into the wheel wells. I had a leak exactly where you mentioned and it drove me crazy. It ended up being the rear window seal, even after repairing it and trying to reseal it over again.

There are a number of possibilities. One is the rear sunroof drain. It's much harder to get a snake down this drain (the front ones are easy). One experiment might be to use tape to seal the sunroof (make sure it won't stick so well as to pull off your paint) and then drive in the rain or use a garden hose. If it still leaks, it's not the sunroof.
Another thing to do is to lay under the car and look for drains. I don't know if all drains on your car terminate in a rubber boot or not so don't assume that you have found all of the drains by finding all the rubber boots. You can probe up into these drains (plastic line for string trimmers works well) or blow air or even water to see where the drain comes from. make sure the rear seat is out because some of the drains could puddle there. Have a helper to watch and listen while you exercise the drains from below. I don't know if the air vent behind the rear door has a drain but it makes sense that it should, water could easily get in there. If the trim will come off you may be able to probe down and find a drain. The easy fix for a drain problem is to remove the leaves and dirt that are clogging the drain. The hard fix is to clean and seal the rusted area that has occurred because the leaves and dirt weren't removed years ago. Keeping drains clean is one of the most important and most neglected parts of Mercedes service. A "drain list," model by model, would be a good DIY project for someone and it could be added to the wiki along with the vacuum diagrams. Jeremy

Keep in mind that your rear window seal could be leaking from the top where it contacts the rear of the roof.
