Possible wrong tranny vac modulator;

Do all '85 Cali models have the same 722.416 tranny?

I think I noticed my modulator is green. Does this hurt anything if I have the 416 tranny?

EDIT:

Part number: 1262704379 for 416 trans.
Part number: 1262702679 for 315 trans.

What's the difference besides the look? I can only assume they operate at different pressures?

If I do in fact need to change mine, I'll have a perfectly good green one up for grabs!

the '85 cali gets a different vacuum signal.

stick with the one you have. Make adjustments at the vacuum amplifier in the engine bay.

The blue thing, right? How do I adjust that?

You want to talk to Brian Carlton.

Search " setting transmission critical" all your answers are there

ps.. are you aware of what modifying the vacuum signal does to the trans function?

but if you can't find it. Theres a small red-ish cap on the bottom of the amplifier. Underneath it is a set screw. Tightening it firms up the trans shifts.

Best post a request on that thread though or read the last few pages carefully.

You need diagnostics before setting that screw.

My advice: dont mess with the blue saucer.

Make all your adjustments at the Vacuum Control Valve or VCV. In that long 'it's critical....' thread there is quite a bit on adjusting the VCV. its simple really. just for the cap off and use a 8mm wrench to add or take away vacuum.

you should have black modulator - BUT - if you can get it shifting nicely then who cars?

could you possibly have a rebuilt 722.3xx transmission installed sometime during th car's life? the trans serial # is located on the passenger side sort of right behind the exhaust pipe on a flat surface.

I'll be under the car today for a few other things... oil change, coolant flush, tracking down a nice oil leak (partially oil pan gasket. No idea where the majority of the leak is. I'm hoping I don't have a hole in the engine!!). I'll check the number on the tranny.

Do you recommend I leave the modulator alone? I have no idea if it's set at the correct pressure. My reading from the vac amp down to the modulator at idle is 15 which drops correctly to 0 at WOT.
