What is this part ? 1995 E300D
Greetings all, on a 1995 E300D with the 606 engine there is a round brass coloured part just aft of the vacuum shutoff on top of the pump. It is blocking access to one of the glow-plugs. None of the manual diagrams, or EPC diagrams label, or mention this device. It has a part # on the top, # 1427 231 008. Should/can this be messed with ?
The pump on the 1995 is unique to that year and model ( 124) the 606 in the 210s have a different pump without this device on top. So far 4 glowplugs are out, one broken and needing to be removed, and one that can't be accessed without removing the mystery device. Thanks for any help on this. Don Tennant |

It has something to do with altitude. Maybe it adjusts the pump for operating at a higher altitude. I was unsuccessful finding exactly what it is. I removed mine with a big pipe wrench. (something not right about working on a benz engine with a big red pipe wrench)

If you're talking about the vertical small cylinder shaped thing, it's the equivalent of the ALDA boost compensator on the turbo engines. I think it's an ACA or something like that.

What is this part
I don't want to mess with it, just remove it so I can get the one remaining glowplug out.
Regarding your post connerm, you used a pipe wrench on the body of this device ? I measured up the two nuts that seem to hold it on, 22mm and 27mm, with none too big an area to use a open end wrench in. Thanks for the reply. Don Last edited by transitguy; 08-04-2009 at 01:40 AM. |
