this is how my dealership works,
new tires all around, no test drive
one or two new tires, test drive
tire rotation on a car with more than 20k, test drive

some dealerships give you free balancing with a rotation but not mine.
ive never seen anyone torque their lugs a second time after a test drive, but i have had cars with very bad threads seem tight but not be when using an impact. i just do my pattern for each wheel three times instead of the normal twice, and note the threads in the description.

I work at Wal-Mart, It's normal procedure, TLE Techs Take CBL's (Computer Based Learning) on all aspects of the job, then they take tests which they must score 80% or Above, Wal-mart requires them to do the figure 8 thing and torque the lugs to ensure everything is seated, with all the law suits wal-mart had in the past due to undertrained people or people not paying attention there really careful now in days.

Thanks for the clarification on techniques and policies used at Wal Mart. It's great to hear that Wal Mart is stepping up on their training and policy enhancements.

Perhaps his Wal-Mart is way ahead of any other in the country. Few members above have said that no one ever saw anything like that in Wal-Mart. Not to mention (again like many members already) that you CAN'T do that in a parking lot...any parking lot. It could belong to Wal-Mart but by the law if there is a public access, they should be controlled under the traffic law. Any cop could write a ticket to this young laddy for Dangerous and unsafe driving on a public roads. Do you think that Wal-Mart will pay the ticket or just kick the boy out???

Thats why I said suggested a co-worker may have told him to do that to get him fired.

For that statement to be true, you would have had to visit every Walmart. Now I know you've had some free time, but aren't there several thousand Walmarts? So if just one does it that way, your statement is incorrect. Oh and btw it's good to have you back. :)

I don't think Wal-mart is going to win at all on this one. They get sued for not tightening the lugs down enough, but its only a matter of time until one of the techs loses control on a car with a little too much power and they have to pay out for another car. Either way, it seems like an odd procedure to me, I'm inclined to agree with FI. I don't get why you wouldn't just check them with a torque wrench.

No figure 8's when I got new tires for the 300TD in the last year or so. Of course I took the wheels off the car and ad them put the tires on loose - no way were those kids getting behind the wheel of my wagon :D


Didn't see them doing that with any of the other cars in the service area tho.....

Is a 123 capable of doing figure 8s? :D
