im considering my next purchase, any advice?

Im strongly considering this car, Is this a good car for my first MB diesel?

What do you think about the price? Im thinking the odometer reading is not correct. This model has a 5 digit od?

Neat car. Manual transmission will help, but it'll still feel painfully slow compared to the other cars in your signature. Probably has rust. Mileage is probably 178K, 278K, etc.

Asking price doesn't seem unreasonable, but still probably over-priced. It's basically impossible to assess the overall condition of the car with the three poor photos provided in the auction listing.

Agreed.

That interior looks pretty clean for really high miles, though.

I'd want to eyeball this one myself before commiting to the price. The pics don't tell much of the story.

Is it worth $3500? Might be, if the car is as nice as they say, might even be a bargain.

Try setting the parking brake on your 300E and go for a drive, and then you'll feel how fast this car is.

These old 220Ds have a really nice personality, I've owned 3 over the years, and I didn't mind the slowness, it's kinda fun driving flat out all the time.:)

Everything I loved about the 220D, I also love on my 250C. Except the fuel mileage....

Check this one out (shameless plug) ;) Not over-priced, free market will determine the number (started at $1).

I am prepared for the slowness of the 220d. Is this the type of MB that has the famous "wunder motor" Is repair relatively easy in respects to diesel? This could potentially be my first MB diesel, and I am not familiar with diesel mechanics. I would say I at least know my way around a m103.

Rust will really be a big factor, I am useless when it comes to body work. Parts are accessible?

Nice car, but im looking for the classic look the 220 has to offer:rolleyes:

Go look at it. Hard to see rust on that brown paint. I like the classic look also.

Your advice is superb!
Maybe you can help me rebuild my A/C?

pj67coll 08-05-2009 03:31 PM

I would say. Assuming it's as nice as it appears to be... yes, definately. You'll have to understand though that you are buying it for what it is, which is a very slow stately and somewhat charachterful machine from a bygone era. Need to check for rust though. Especially if it's been in OH all it's life.

I was hoping to get in a fintail, but maybe next car... I think this car has about everything that I was looking for, I only hope I dont get disappointed.

lorainfurniture 08-13-2009 07:10 PM

Rust bucket. The guy has it sitting in a field with grass growing around it. If you open the hood , you can see small holes to the wheel well! It wouldn't even start, I'm concluding that it has a rust related fuel leak. Kind of a shame. I was hoping to get in to a new Benz. The guy should be selling it for a thousand bucks, after he fixes the fuel leak, starts it, and shows that it purrs like a kitten.

Mabey next one

Brraaaaaaaaack (annoying Basketball stadium horn)

$50.00 USD would BE top dollar!

lorainfurniture 08-13-2009 10:41 PM

What do you guys think would be a fair offer? I'm thinking of just buying it, driving it for a bit, then parting it out and sell the parts.

Brandon_SLC 08-13-2009 10:51 PM

It's too nice. I'd be jealous.;)

I'd definitely want to have an inspection before committing $3500 to it.

Edit: Oh I see, there's been more posts :o

Well, then good you steered clear of it.

Finding a nice, rust free fintail in the NE/Upper MW sounds like a daunting task.
