2007 E320 Blutec test drive of 3000 miles of smiles
What a great car! Hard to believe that so many good improvements have been made since my 1998 e300.
Now, I really paid for it before I even saw it, so it was mine if I liked it or not. Some problems : It really does get 700 miles per tank. My tank will not last that long, so stops for food and restroom stops are necessary. Also it is very difficult to keep at the speed limit. I had to use the speed control 95% percent of the time. I had to as the oregon State patrol lasered me at 81.111. Hard to believe since i was on cruise at 60 and went to pass a car easy..not hammer down. That was a $475 donation to the OSP fund. I did test 1 time on an on ramp and it went to 120 easy and fast. And the lo/hi beam flame throwers are almost to bright and will reflect back when those big roadside signs are glowing back. So we drove from Reno to Oregon, to Washington State and back to San Diego on a two week trip. We averaged 34 MPG and about 60 MPH. Very heavily loaded. They are great. We got a CDI in July because we got a good deal and I prefer the straight-6 OM648 and the 722.6 trans over the new aluminum V6 and 722.9. The navigation system is a little dated (my Garmin 250W is a ton easier to use) but otherwise it's a fantastic car.
