Just got a speeding ticket 95 E300

I thought it was impossible but it happened, I was rushing home from a trip up in San Francisco and I was clocked going 83 MPH up hill through the grapevine... I was surprised I was going that fast (in 4th gear) the pedal had a lot more room to go even faster.... These cars aren't as slow as you think!

Sorry for your ticket.

Despite being N/A, I find the car's acceleration and speed is more than adequate.

I see you have a turbo version as well, you lucky dog.

I actually prefer driving the Non Turbo version over the Turbo version....There is something about this car that reminds me of my long gone 240d (Spartan, hefty, miserly at the pump, solid materials, very comfortable seats,no creeks etc) It doesnt hurt that I have been returning 35% better fuel economy in the w124 than in my w210.

Oh it's possible :o I got a speeding ticket in my 1980 240D Automatic going 73 in a 55.

Stupid god @#%@ ignorant dumb speedometer  (It's always been about 10mph under the real speed of the car)

Sorry about your ticket man, these N/A diesels prove themselves everyday!

These cars aren't slow at all- they're tuned to cruise all day a high revs and high speed- I always think my E300D is like a different car on the motorway than it is around town- they feel like they want to go faster once you're up to 70-80 'cause that's where the power is! :) I got to drive on the autobahn last year and it was brilliant driving at the speeds the car's designed for, you could really feel it come alive.

Bummer on your speeding ticket tho...

My boss has a '95 E300 (gasoline) and I have been 110MPH in that car. Yesterday, I got my 190D NA up to 95MPH on some flats in Eastern Oregon. I still had pedal left. Both cars seem to get steadier and smoother at higher speed.

They do come alive on the Interstate. I get up to 75mph+ on one section going to work just to stay up with the folks passing me. It feels like my 300D isn't even taxed at this speed. I'd love to see how it felt cruising at 80 or 90 for awhile. That will never happen though.

I don't understand why you are surprised the final year or two of the 124 diesels had the same engine as was in my 96 E300D. It was a 120MPH car as I recall.

equipmentjunkie 08-07-2009 12:30 PM

I am not surprised by the speed. I saw an indicated 105 in my E300D once for a very short time since I was curious to see if it would make triple-digits. Normally, I'm a 68 mph kind of guy.

Oldwolf 08-07-2009 02:32 PM

What should my RPM's be at 60 mph in my 93 300D anyway. I haven't fixed my tachometer yet.

winmutt 08-07-2009 02:52 PM

My ticket a few weeks back was for 70 in a 55, marked down from 90. I don't think he clocked me because I was going a good deal faster than 90.
