W123 Climate Control - Anybody know what this is?

1 Attachment(s)
I have an 1983 300D and I am troubleshooting my Climate control and found this part on parts website but I have not seen anybody reference it on the forums:

The Site lists it as a:

Mercedes (OE)
AC & Heater Control Valve; Changeover Valve for Climate Control; 2 Pin & 2 Vacuum Connectors
Used with A/C and heating controls in dash.

What does it do? People talk about the monovalve as a source of problems and I am going to replace that, but when I tear open my dash, should I replace this as well?

Thanks
Doug

PS. Could anybody point me in the direction of where I can buy replacement diaphragms for the control pods for the vents? I see people say that you can replace them, but I haven't found anybody who sells the replacement part.

These are the electrically operated valves that control the vacuum supply to the actuators. They are located behind the wood panel that covers the climate control unit. Above the CCU if I remember correctly. There are 5 of them in a row. I don't think they fail very often, which is why nobody mentions them.

Spot on

Yeah I have looked mine over. They don'rt fail often. There was a good troubleshooting thread about these at some point with pictures etc. I would do some "search" work. There was also a thread that mentioned a souce for replacement parts for these actuators.

George Murphy supplies the vacuum pod repair pods. Search on his name here and his phone number will come up. Last time I checked he did not have a website.

You can buy diaphragms for the single pods only. The double-action pods can be half-repaired: if the small diaphragm leaks, you can replace it. The large diaphragm is NLA. George Murphy has the diaphragms.

Which Pods have 2 diaphragms and which ones have 1? I thought all the actuators (pink pods) have only one.
