Oil Leak 99 E300
I took the intake of my E300 to try and find where all the oil is coming from. The injection pump is soaked and dripping off the bottom. Are they any common areas on the injection pump that leak engine oil? I took a couple of pictures I am going to try and load up.

That looks like D2 rather than oil to me. Invest in a can of brake cleaner, warm the engine a bit and then spray everything on and around the IP clean. Then check again after running the engine for an hour to see where the fuel is comming from.
Guesing its the DV's seals and/or SOV oring. If DV's (and you havent done them before), ask for assistance first.

Hi Terry, glad to see you are still on this forum.
Its not fuel, no smell and its leaving nice big black puddles in my garage. What you can't see from the picture is if you put your hand under the pump its black oil soaked.

As Terry suggested, get it good and cleaned up then check it out again. On mine, the seal on the cover plate on the side was leaking pretty badly and the car was spotting the driveway.
I replaced the seal on the plate and it's good to go now.

I have no problem spaying it down, but as long as I have the intake off I guess I can replace that cover plate seal your are talking about and then spay it down put it together and hope I dont have to take the intake off so soon.
What cover plate seal are you talking about? The one that looks like its behind the cut off valve?

Found this old thread where you posted replacing your pump seal Kar-Tek:
IP Oil Leak 606 W210 I just ordered the lateral gasket #152 (from your old post) and the lower one #149 which is called the seal ring. I don't even know if you can get to that one but it was only 4 dollars. Parts will not arrive until Tuesday so I will clean the leaking area up. Are there torque setting on those little bolts? I dont have my Star CDROM yet, just ordered it.

I don't know the exact torque but I wouldn't put more than about 5#/ft or good and snug by hand with a driver type tool.
The plate is designed to compress the seal fully and contact the pump housing.

still leaking..
Ok, I cleaned up the area around the pump then I replaced the lateral gasket, replaced the lift pump gasket and some fuel lines that were leaking. That took care of the major leak.
However, I discovered some smaller leaks on the injection pump. It appears the bottom seal is leaking and the seal on the back of the pump. I think I can change the bottom seal with a swival socket (becasue the block is in the way for some of the bolts) but I am not sure about the back seal-If I remove the bolts on the back of the pump and pull that piece off will anything harm or come out of the pump? you can see from the pictures what I am talking about. Also, in the second picture-what is this called? I want to get the gasket for this part. It is just above the oil pan on the passenger side of the engine. I am guess it is some line that drains oil back into the engine.

I bet your problem is solely a result of the bottom seal leaking--common problem with older M-injection pumps. I strongly suspect that the oil is dripping from the bottom seal and migrating backwards with the airflow. The rear seal really shouldn't leak all that much.

i was thinking the same thing, I just wanted to change them both when I am there, but I don't have to if it could possibly screw something up.

I honestly wouldn't mess with the rear of the pump, as that's where all the electronics meet the mechanics of the pump. Just re-torque those rear bolts, and you should be fine.

I barrowed your pics.
In pic 1 it indeed looks like the bottom pan is leaking. In pic 2 you can pull the bottom pan with the green arrow off without causing any problems. Sort of like your Oil Pan it is a Cover.

In the second picture, that is the oil return line from the turbo. Part number for the gasket is 603 187 06 80.

Close (and very similar looking), but no cee-gar. That's the lift pump on the side of the injection pump. The arrow is pointing at the bottom plate on the pump, which invariably leaks on all of the OM60X engines.
