85 Cali Vacuum bypassing question...
 
In the W123 85 Cali vac diagram, can I bypass number 84 and 81? It seems they do little more than EGR stuff. I have a severe vacuum leak at both of these components somehow, and I'm wondering if they're even necessary.

#84 and #81 can be removed provided you remove and re-route the related vacuum lines accordingly.

They're just for EGR, right? Do they serve any other particular purpose? I don't want to hurt another system in bypassing these things.

I've removed them both. If you trace the vac lines that come from them, you'll see they receive signals from other important elements that should not be removed, but send signals only to EGR and the ARV.

Mine are in a box in the garage someplace along with the EGR valve itself. No loss, the left inner fender is cleaner, and there are fewer places to have a vacuum leak.
