Congratulations! Turbo is the same, transmission is a 722.416, basically the same as earlier models. Torque converter has a slightly higher stall speed. Final drive ratio is taller, lower engine rpm's for the same highway speed.

Tachometer circuit runs through the EGR module which, with the over-voltage protection relay (OVP), is cunningly hidden behind the front passenger's right-hand kick panel where no one will ever think to look. You would think Mercedes was smuggling it into the USA.

The air conditioning compressor's clutch engages through a "Klima" (brand name) relay that is unique to the model-year. Klima looks at a number of things and then decides whether it will allow the compressor to run. It is a common failure item, about $85, can be bypassed but you lose some safety things that Klima does for you. Search "Klima" for more details.

Enjoy!

Jeremy

Welcome the the MB diesel fraternity. Jeremy's fantasizing. The Klima runs $160 (http://catalog.peachparts.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=1985-Mercedes--Benz-300d-Climate--Control&yearid=1985%40%401985&makeid=63%40%40MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40X&modelid=6193%3AMBC|1504%3AED|10000135%40%40300D&catid=242213%40%40Climate+Control&subcatid=242276@@A%2FC+Relay&mode=PA)

You should also know we have trunk badge/model police here. Since all US model 300d's came with or without turbos based on the year sold, adding 'T's' to 300d is considered redundant and is typically punished with a public flogging.

Do you have a part number? You're starting to remind me of my great grandfather with your pricing guesses.

I do know the calif has a different transmission than the federal. when I serviced the trans, and was replacing the pan gasket, it wouldn`t fit. the pan gasket for the cali one is like the later model cars.

the turbo has the ARV valve on it as well as the 84. unplug the vacuum line and it should operate the same.

the 85 has the 2:88 differential.

I don't need ANY 123 parts. I wouldn't know what to do with them. I just wanted to look up the list price.
