The fry catchers were on all the 124 seats. They are quite often broken off. The attachment pins are plastic and push through a hole and then snap back out. After 20 years of age the plastic is fairly brittle. The only ones left in Germany are black. That's what I have on my car now. They do a good job of catching the crap that falls out of my center console.

So this is some kinda trim piece? I may have never seen one and don't recognize the word. Picture, please? and I'll look in EPC in the meantime.

Oh! French Fry catcher! Understand now. My car never had them (lost before I got the car, I mean) but I did have French Fries under the seats! Can you point it out in the diagram from EPC?

The trouble will be working on a seat at the PYP if you can't get power to it. You have to slide the seat aft to get to the very tight screws that go up into the seat at the front corners. Hopefully you can get to the 4 bolts attaching the seat to the car and there's room to open the door enough to get the seat out.

Exactly! I found a set of newer seats at Garland PNP and wanted to try to fit them into my 123. No power, seat in low position. I could get the covers and the back but no luck on the bottom frame unless I could power the seat and change postion to get to the bolts.

I wasted too much time and gave up.

Repaired my 123 seats including having an uphostery shop sew in new MB tex panels to repair a couple of rips.

If you have any 12v cordless tools you could probably move them with that battery. Or if you bring a cordless reciprocating saw you could cut the bolts.

The new ratcheting wrenches might also work. I've gotten into some tight spots with mine.

Seeing I have survived without them so far, I can continue to do so, but will watch Pick and Pull for used ones.

Anyone ever try hauling a small 12V battery into a junkyard with their tools? Seems to me it would be handy for power seats and sunroofs and such things that need to be moved. You'd have to do a little surgery to get at the wiring but with the right schematics it wouldn't be difficult.

Yes, I tried. Not allowed at PNP Garland or Fort Worth. No power tools of any kind. I'm looking for a 12V flashlight - I might get than in. They search your tool box on the way in and out.

They are cloth coated. I think it would take several coats to change that to a lighter color. I left mine black and no one has complained so far.

After having put them on, I think you will need to have the seat out of the car to have any hope of removing them with out breaking the piece that holds them on.

They are not on the earliest cars.

My 86 300E 5 speed didn't have them, nor did my 87 300TD with a May 86 build date.

All other ones have them (4 87s, one 89, one 93, and our 95).

My 87 300TD (June '86 build date) had them at one time. I found the pieces that held them on broken off in the holes.

Did you buy both of those cars new?
