the same year seats should fit from 81-85, assuming the w123 in question doesn't have w201 style seats (this started about '83, when the w201 came out).
the best thing to do is measure distances between front and rear seat bolt holes. if they are the same, they will fit. simply because w126 and w123 did use very similar seats from 81-83 for sure. in 86 or 87 the w126 got a facelift and the seats were changed, but don't know about the bolt patterns. late model 560sel heated orthopedic seats would be sick on a w123! |

There was a thread last year talking about this. The w126 seat spring box will swap over to the w123 from what I remember. you might have to use the w123 rails and mount.
I just scored on a set of 87 560SEL seats in perfect shape, then got them home and discovered they have the heated seats. Charlie

W124 has a different bolt pattern. But the solution was simply to drill 4 holes in each seat. W123 should have a similar issue.

Hello, I swapped out a drivers seat from a 1988 420 sel into my 1980 300 td wagon. The 420 had the heated seats and power bracket which I don't think would have worked. I swapped the rails from the old seat to the new one and it worked good except unless you hook up the power it will always be stuck in one position as far as the recline feature goes. I really needed a seat so I had to do it. some day I may get around to hooking up the seat power.

OMG! I have almost the same question!
I want to temporarily swap a 123 seat into a 126 so I can work on the 126 seat and still drive the car. If this were a permanent thing, I wouldn't mind having to swap rails, but if I can just bolt it in that would be great. Both are '84. Will it work without swapping rails or will I have to drill? Doesn't _really_ matter, cuz I'll do what is needed. Just want to know in advance what I'm up against.

A couple of years ago, someone posted pictures of a set of 126 seats, front and rear, that he had put into his 300CD - they looked great.

I couldn't find the post with the pictures of 126 seats in a 300CD, but here's a post from ICEFIRE from back in 12/03/06:
"Hey guys I thought I would share this little tidbit with you, It is relatively easy to to swap in W126 seats into a W123, You need to unbolt the W123 front seats from their rails, this is done in some cases by removing 6 bolts, or in some cases it is necessary to remove 12 bolts. The frame rails need to be aligned into certain postions to remove the bolts. The will either have a torx + flathead head, or a philips, not both. Bolt the frame rails onto the W126 seats. In some cases the seatbelt reciever will need to be changed. Some simple wireing will take care of the recline & headrest wireing on the 126 Seats, (2 DPDT switches per seat). The front seats fit perfectly, the rear seat fit 98%. Of the three tabs that hold the top of the rear seatback in place, bend the center support toward the front of the car about .5 inch. you will need to drill the 2 new mounting holes left and right lower bolt brackets, but this will be completly clear when the seat is in place. The rear seat bottom is about .5 inches to wide, but fits acceptably, you will need to drill 2 holes for the peg like things that secure the W126 rear seats. All in all pretty easy job. Couple of hours probably. So if those MB Tex 123 Seats are on their last legs and the local wrecking yard has some mint 126 seats, I say go for it, I would do it again if I owned a 123, this one was for a client..."

126 seats are nice but all I've seen were leather and were usually cracked badly.
Worth looking into though, especially if the newer style seats would fit. I would imagine they would look really nice in a 123.

I replaced the seats in my wife's '82 300SD with seats from a later model 560SE - her seats were cooked from the Texas heat, but I found a really nice set on eBay in an upper east coast bone yard - up there, the body rots out before the seats go south.
