240 Differential seal leaking HELP
I am trying to change the seal on my differential. It leaks a lot. overnight there will be a big puddle under the car. It is coming from the front of the diff where the drive shaft attached to. Now i need to disconnect the drive shaft, but then there is another part that is in the diff. Will that just slide out, or can i pry it out. Can someone give me some directions on this.

Below is not an exaxt pic of your differential. but ounce the Flex Disc is removed you will find some sort of nut holding the 3 pronged yoke on. You need to remove the yoke and maybe a spacer washer in order to get the seal out. Please besure to not how the spacer washer comes out. I do not know the details but that spacer washer or one further inside has something do do with the asjustment of the Pinion and the Ring Gears. If there is no DIY on it I would suggest waiting until someone who has more info can advise you. |

I cant even get that far now. I tried to disconnect the drive shaft, but can not do it. It appears that i have to remove the front drive shaft and then the rear drive shaft. I though once i get the screws holding the drive shaft it would just drop down but something else is holding it.

Make sure to loosen the front clamping nut.

I looked up the procedure for the pinion seal, I'll be taking my leaking one to a mechanic!

I just tried to remove the drive shaft, and the problem I have is that the i cant pull it out. I loosened the nut in the middle connecting the two drive shafts, and I also loosened the carrier. But could not get it out. Then I unscrewed the screws holding the drive shaft to the transmission but could not get it out.

Bang on it a bit, may be stuck.

It's held by friction. You need a prybar or screwdriver to separate the flexdisk and driveshaft. There are little metal collars in the flexdisk (?) that are tight.
