1987 300d remove lower dash panel --mice
 

Hello,

Im trying to remove and clean a mice nest from the drivers side lower dash. The smell is making me ill. I have removed the plastic panel just above the pedals that is connected to this as there were nests there to. This remaining panel is close to your knees when driving and connected to the ignition on the right side and the headlight switch and break release on the left side. Are there any mechanic manuals on line that would have instructions with diagrams?That would be great?? I have unscrewed this and it is lose but Im not sure whats next. I plan to remove the nest clean this panel and then hope there are no nests in a/c sytem or further in dash. Any one with any knowledge of where the may nest in the dash or with experince with this mice problem who could help me would be so appreciated. I plan to put an ozone machine into the cabin after im done cleaning.I was going to sell this car as I thought it was the diesel that was bothering me but a friend with knowledge suggested it was probably the mice urine and smell!!!

There are threads on the removal subject, search for "dash removal" because the lower panel is part of the process. You have to pull off the headlight switch knob (grip firmly with slip-joint pliers and PULL), remove the nut, and then pop off the black trim panel, removing the little light as you do so. The black panel at the ignition switch also pops off. The ignition switch stays. Behind both panels are several sheet-metal screws that take an 8mm socket, remove all of them. A couple of such screws are also lower down; get down on the floor with a flashlight and you'll see them.

You also have to remove the hood release lever (one Phillips-head screw) and remove it's cable. The brake-release pull can stay on unless you want to take the panel out of the car (3 Phillips head screws).

Likely the mouse smell will go away with the padding. You can replace the padding and be OK.

Put a bunch of glue traps & or spring traps around and inside the car. A day or two later repeat until all of mickeys cousins are gone.

Alternate but not pratical ideas:
Mouse Poison: You have to find the bodies before the begin to smell.

Lock a hungry Cat in your car: You need a bowel for
Water and a Litter Box inside. Unfortunately Cats sometimes like to sharpen their Claws on Ulpholstery.

Put a mouse eating non-poisonous Snake in your car: I do not think a Snake would do any damage to the inside of the Car. But, I have read it might be happy to eat only 1 Mouse a week. So, if you need to get rid of the mice fast you would need a lot of snakes.

Similar to the above suggestions but get a Farrett: Also seems like an animal that might cause some interior damage.

Buy the local little Kids Icecream for each Mouse they catch.

Why I do not like Mice.
I found the Mouse damaged Sweater today in a closet of old cloths. I thought hungry Moths at first till I saw Mouse droppings and areas peeed on on other clothing next to it.

I used to restore antique radios and the worst case scenario was a mouse nest.

Mice love the taste of electrical insulation, so don't be surprised if you have some bare wires.

On top of that, their urine is very corrosive. You want to be sure that you've gotten rid of as much as possible.

Several years ago I hauled a used window A/C that I bought in my trunk.

Got it home and took it apart to hose it off. When I took it apart a roach went running from the A/C.

Well the next night a friend and I were going out and I was driving. Out of the corner of my eye I see a large roach run across his leg, he did not see it. I about pooped myself.

I put roach traps in the car and only saw it on one other occasion.
